15 College Programs To Face-Off At Women’s Colleluori Classic On 9/27

Hempstead, NY – On Saturday, September 27th, 15 collegiate women’s lacrosse teams will meet on the playing field at Hofstra University to face-off against blood cancer in the 6th Annual Women’s Nick Colleluori Classic. The event has become an annual fall lacrosse tradition on campus hosted by the Hofstra Women’s Lacrosse team to raise funds and awareness to support the HEADstrong Foundation™.  It is ironic that the event would fall on the 27th, as it was the number that HEADstrong founder Nick Colleluori wore while playing lacrosse at Hofstra University.

The lacrosse action will begin at 8:00AM at James M. Shuart Stadium and will conclude with the last games at 4:45PM.  Adelphi, Central Connecticut State, Hofstra, Iona, LaSalle, LIU Brooklyn, LIU Post, NYAC, Siena, Stony Brook, UMASS Lowell, Villanova, Wagner and Yale will all be playing this year.  Aside from the 14 programs, a HEADstrong women’s team consisting of former Hofstra lacrosse players will also be competing.

All the teams will take the field wearing HEADstrong’s iconic lime green shoelaces to show their support for the cause. Additionally, each team will be engaged in service by selling awareness t-shirts on their campuses to help contribute to the fundraising total.

During the event, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom will present the Nicholas Colleluori Award to a player from each participating team.  The award is presented annually to a players whose contributions both on and off the field are transforming the landscape of their represented program.

In addition to a great day of lacrosse, the HEADstrong Foundation™ will be on-site sharing their mission and selling awareness merchandise. There will be plenty of activities to keep fans and spectators entertained all day.

Proceeds from the WNCC will help to fund essential programs and services offered by the HEADstrong Foundation to improve quality of life for cancer patients and their families.

“On behalf of the HEADstrong Foundation™, the Colleluori family and our founder, Nicholas, we wish to extend our sincere appreciation to Hofstra University Athletics for their continued commitment to supporting our Nick’s vision.  We wish to also thank all of the teams participating for joining our fundraising efforts through the 6th Annual WNCC.  We are looking forward to an incredible day of inspiration in support of all of those affected by cancer.”  – Cheryl Colleluori, HEADstrong President and Nick’s Mom
