Day 7

With yesterday’s victory we were granted a bit longer in bed before pre-game walk throughs and training. The weather was far more miserable than the day before, and remained that way the entire day, perhaps a sign of things to come.

Entering the training rooms, everybody felt this game was already in the bag. Wales had lost every game so far and having played them in previous tournaments we felt we had the upper hand. This mindset quickly translated into the scoreline as Wales took no time in seizing the lead. With three losses they had everything to prove. Unfortunately, despite some serious fight from several players, we couldn’t pull the game back, ending on 10-8 to Wales.

This loss hit the team hard, not helped by a walk home in the rain. Having felt we were going to win this one, and already looking to the next game, it was a hard pill to swallow. Spirits were partially raised by a team meal at the ‘Aussie Bar’, a boat boar sat on Turku’s main river. With kilts on and lots of food, we slowly began to get over the loss, a process not entirely done with.

However we are all very much aware that a team and its individuals can be judged on how they bounce back from defeat, and so in the next few days we are out to prove ourselves, and Scotland.
