6th NYC Downtown Short Film Festival – Audience Choice Screenings

Back in September LPG mentioned Transition will be submitted to film festivals in the coming year. It has just been announced Transition has been selected to screen at the 6th NYC Downtown Short Film Festival Audience Choice Screenings on February 25th at 8:00pm at the DUO Theatre.

Based on the true story of the younger brother of Anthony Bradford (writer/producer), the film follows a high school star who battles cancer to regain a spot on his varsity team. “This isn’t just a lacrosse film, but the film also has the purpose to raise awareness of Pediatric Cancer,” says Bradford.

Bradford goes on to state that “the lacrosse players used in this film were real high school players who generously donated their time for this film and its cause. At the end of the film, there is a PSA with statistics and different facts about Childhood Cancer.”

The NYCDSFF began 5 years ago with 12 submissions. Last year, over 1,000 films were submitted—so many that the Festival Committee began holding monthly Audience Choice Screenings, with the winning films earning a spot at this year’s fest. Every year is a sell-out, so the 2010 festival is being expanded to six nights. Showcasing some of the best short films being produced in America and internationally, the festival’s line-up includes provocative dramas, clever comedies, edgy animation, and intriguing documentaries.

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.

I think the lacrosse community needs to get behind this film and do everything we can to support it.
