Michigan Debuts with Exhibition Split at Michigan Stadium


ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan men’s lacrosse team split a pair of scrimmages on Sunday (Oct. 2), falling to Providence, 11-10, in overtime before blowing out Concordia (Wis.), 16-3, at Michigan Stadium.

Facing Providence in its opening contest as a varsity program, Michigan overcame a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime. One minute and 56 seconds into sudden-victory overtime, the Friars captured the exhibition win.


Fifth-year senior attackman Trevor Yealy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) led U-M with three goals in game one, while sophomore midfielder Douglas Bryant (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) and freshman midfielder William Meter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) chipped in two goals apiece. Freshman goalie Emil Weiss (Cary, N.C./Apex) made 15 saves, including eight in the first quarter when Providence outshot U-M 14-6.

Michigan scored the first three goals of the game against Concordia and answered the Falcons’ lone first-half tally with a 10-goal run through the end of the third quarter. Freshman midfielder Andrew Mosko (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) notched a hat trick. Yealy, Bryant, sophomore attackman Jeffrey Chu (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and freshman midfielder David Joseph (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) each had two goals.

Michigan wraps up its fall schedule on Saturday (Oct 8) at the Nick Calleluori Classic in Philadelphia, Pa. U-M faces St. Joseph’s at 9:30 a.m. and Towson at 12:30 p.m.
