Syracuse Orange Lacrosse Announces 2012 Team Captains

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Redshirt senior Tim Desko (Syracuse, N.Y.), senior Bobby Eilers (Simsbury, Conn.) and juniors Brian Megill (Clark, N.J.) and JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) have been named captains for the 2012 season, head coach John Desko announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18. All four were elected in a vote by their teammates and will serve in the role for the first time.

Desko is the fourth member of his family to be voted captain at Syracuse. His father, John, filled the role from 1978-79 and his uncles Dave Desko and Jeff Desko were Orange captains in 1984 and 1986, respectively. John and Tim Desko are the second father-son captain tandem in program history joining Tom and Matt Abbott.

Tim Desko has 52 points in 39 career games as an attackman, including 41 goals. An All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 2011, he totaled 16 goals in 10 games a year ago, including a career-best five in SU’s 12-10 win against Virginia.

Eilers has seen action in 27 games over three seasons. Last year, he stepped up as a member of the second midfield halfway through the season and scored eight goals, including the first hat trick of his career versus Providence at the New England Lacrosse Classic.

Megill has started every game his first two years on close defense. A 2011 All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, he led all SU close defenders with 27 caused turnovers last season and was fourth on the team in ground balls (34).

Marasco received 2011 USILA Honorable Mention All-America and All-BIG EAST Second Team plaudits after tying for the team scoring lead (41 points) last year. He recorded 23 goals and tied for team-high honors with 18 assists. For his career, Marasco has 58 points (32g, 26a) in 27 games.
