Game Photos: Tenacious Turtles Win Dick’s National Tournament of Champions

Our favorite group of youngsters, the Tenacious Turtles, ventured to Tampa, Florida, to compete against teams from all over the country in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions. Per usual, the Turtles did not disappoint. Their flare, coupled with the title, made for an interesting weekend of domination. The Tenacious Turtles, hailing from Long Island, went on to win the 2012 Dick’s National Tournament of Champions – U 13 championship game. Below are Game Photos from the ‘ship!

i watched two of their games, (both against palm beach storm) and almost all of the kids flopped and dived anytime they were touched. being that they were much smaller, the refs sucked up to the smaller, weaker players and gave them all of the calls, even on perfectly legal hits. the storm team seemed to be much better and more athletic. #3 and #20 on storm were better than any of the kids on the turtles team by far.

The turtles play the game of lacrosse as classy as it gets they move the ball and have no big stud who dose everything. everyone who hates on them and their uniforms is jealous.. most teams and parents that play them only complement them on their style of play, appearance and class! If you watch them you can’t deny that they move the ball extremely well and are the best in the country.

If this was truly a team of 7th graders I would be impressed.  There is no question that this group is talented.  But instead of checking what grade these kids are in and registering to play by grade, US Lacrosse needs to check birth certificates and have kids play at their age level, not the grade their parents have chosen for them. Level the playing field.

    • msms on January 4, 2012 at 11:02 pm

the turtles are all 7th graders.. however fca and Crabs both cheat and play down, the turtles have showed that they can beat any body their age and most teams a year older to

    • Rlax on January 5, 2012 at 2:26 am

All 7th grade…all ages checked out a year younger and sometimes almost two! these kids work hard and nobody on that team keeps stats…the most unselfish team in lacrosse. Impressed yet?

      • Rlax on January 5, 2012 at 2:37 am

who is the kid that got laid out in pic 11? ouch

      • Rlevy on January 5, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Not true-not sure of your source. No doubt they work hard. Birth certificates.

the Tournament is based on US lacrosse guidelines which is Sept 1, 1997 to 1999.  The Turtles have 4 players 1998 and all 1999.  3 players still qualify for U-11.

Rich and Reebs are entitled to their opinions, however, they clearly have no first hand knowledge of this team or the individual players. The fact that these kids have the opportunity to play in great equipment comes only after they have demonstrated their willingness to play as a team and demonstrate first class sportsmanship. Put these guys on the field in rags and they would still compete at the high level they do and still be first class sports.  Congrats to the Turtles!!!

Rich and Reebs – sucks getting old doesn’t it? Is their gear loud and attention-grabbing, yes. Does it say anything about their attitude, how they play or their respect for the game? No.
I was at TOC and yes, you noticed their gear right away – how could you not? Most said it was awesome. And of course there was some, like you, that did not understand or appreciate it.
But after you look past the uniforms and actually watch these boys play, you see a TEAM – there was no monster kid who ran the field and did all the work. They work as a cohesive unit. From the defense. midis, attack and goal, they understand the concept of team play and ball movement. You could see all the hard work and practice they must put in. They were a pleasure to watch. I think they are great for promoting the growth of lacrosse. And I think the majority of people who saw them play, would agree with me.

dicks tournament is a joke. we won a tournament with 4 teams to get a bid..

haterade. you’re chugging it I see.

    • umdlac on January 4, 2012 at 12:01 pm

Apparently the fact that they can return to defend the title shows they were young for this age group. I was their (not like the above commentor) with the Breakers, the competition was legit.

Secondly to Rich and Reebs…first of all those uni’s are dirty….secondly these kids are probably twice as good as both of you combined….Congrats to the kids though building on their skill at that age will deff give them a bright future in lacrosse

Rich and Reebs both of you should shut your mouths, these kids play with the utmost respect for every single person they play against, they congratulate people who score on them, they shake hands and offer support their never rude kids. I was at this tournament for team florida and their parents were some of the nicest people you can meet and the kids were too talked with them a bit between the games at no point did they disgrace the game, their gear is sick and its promoting the sport to show these kids can dominate and look good so why not do it.

These kids ARE amazing..they are great players and respectful kids for sure. However, I disagree with you about the parents. They were heckling kids on the sidelines that they played against. A shame really as the kids and coaches are a class act. These boys are the real deal and move the ball better than most varsity teams. Good for them for winning a most deserved title with dignity and class. Hopefully their parents can learn from their children.

There’s over zealous parents on every sideline unfortunately. For every bad, there are also good. The parents I spoke to couldn’t have been nicer.

  18. richlax25 on January 2, 2012 at 10:58 pm

I’m all for looking good and what not but these kids are given too much attention and too much hype. No 6th grade team should be treated the way they are no matter how good they are…

    • Reebs on January 2, 2012 at 11:09 pm

Second. The gear is pretty gross anyway those helmets are disgusting. Not the kind of attitude which should be promoted in the growing lacrosse culture.

      • msms on January 4, 2012 at 11:04 pm

the turtles move the ball better then most varsity teams, they all make the extra pass and have high lacrosse IQ, unlike fca who they played in the finals had 2 or 3 older kids that played selfishly
