Meet the Notre Dame Lacrosse Incoming Recruits

Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan and his staff inked another top-notch recruiting class.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program has announced the commitment of 12 student-athletes who will suit up for the Fighting Irish beginning in the 2013 season. The class, which is ranked eighth nationally by Inside Lacrosse, features four midfielders, four defensemen, three attackmen and one goalie.

Three of the incoming players are listed in the Inside Lacrosse “Power 100 Freshmen” rankings, while two appear in the magazine’s top-20 post-graduate player rankings. Midfielders Trevor Brosco (#49) and Kyle Trolley (#96) along with defenseman Matt Landis (#66) are in the “Power 100 Freshmen”. Attackman Matt Kavanagh is the top-ranked post-graduate player, while fellow attackman Bobby Gray appears at No. 19 on the list.

“This class gives us help at every position,” says Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan. “They provide both talent and depth at every position. We have a number of guys who will be significant contributors and very good players at this level. I love the fact that a lot of the guys are coming out of top programs across the country. They’ve been well coached and have played good, competitive lacrosse.”

Four of the newcomers hail from New York, while three are from New Jersey. The other states/countries represented are California (2), Pennsylvania (2) and Canada (1).

Here is a complete breakdown of Notre Dame’s incoming freshman class …

Trevor Brosco – Midfield – Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River
Ranked No. 49 on the Inside Lacrosse “Power 100 Freshmen” rankings … rated as the 17th best midfielder in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … a five-time letter winner at Shoreham-Wading River High School … played on the varsity squad since the eighth grade … three-time team captain … the first sophomore to ever be named captain at Shoreham-Wading River … as a senior, he helped Shoreham-Wading River win the Suffolk County Class “C”, the Long Island Class “C” and the New York State Class “C” Championships en route to earning All-America honors from US Lacrosse and was named Suffolk County Class “C” MVP … in addition, he was selected all-county, all-division and was named to MSG Varsity first team all-metro (N.Y.,N.J., Conn.) … earned a spot on Newsday’s First Team All-Long Island in 2012 … helped Shoreham-Wading River to the Suffolk County Class “B” title during his junior campaign … selected to tryout for the 2012 U.S. U-19 squad … missed a good portion of his junior season due to injury … received all-county and all-division accolades as a sophomore and was chosen to play on the Empire Top 50 Showcase … selected to the all-star teams at the three events he attended that summer: Hot Beds, Maverik Showtime and King of the Hill … was one of only five sophomores to be named to MSG Varsity Super 75 (top players on Long Island) … son of James and Patricia Brosco … older sister, Kaitlyn, plays for the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team.

Corrigan on Brosco … “Trevor had a terrific senior year and a great career on Long Island. He’s an accomplished all-around midfielder. He did a little bit of everything, faced off, played offense and played defense.”
Edwin Glazener – Defense – La Jolla, Calif./The Bishop’s School
Rated as the 39th best defenseman in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … earned All-America honors during his senior season … a four-year letter winner at The Bishop’s School … two-time conference player of the year in addition to being named to the all-San Diego team twice … captained his squad during his junior and senior seasons … team defensive MVP … played under former Notre Dame lacrosse player Steve Sepeta … Adrenaline Showcase and High Rollers participant … an honor roll student … son of Chris and Ann Glazener … has a younger brother, Davis.

Corrigan on Glazener … “He gives us another big, athletic defenseman. He’s another one of our guys who understands how we play the game and they are excited about getting out there with us.”

Adam Goins – Midfielder – Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga
A three-year letter winner at Conestoga High School … helped squad to three Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) state titles (2010, 2011, 2012) and a three-year record of 72-6 … Conestoga was ranked in the top 10 nationally during the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons … first team all-conference as a senior along with being All-Eastern Pa Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) and second team All-Mainline … Nike Blue Chip participant and two-time Maverik Showtime Camp All-Star … started for the Conestoga football team during his sophomore and junior years and was an all-conference defensive back as a junior … received the 2012 Ryan Paul Weidler Scholar Athlete Memorial Award at Conestoga High School … lacrosse team’s recipient of the 2012 Herzlich Family Award … National Achievement Scholar … member of the National Honor Society … All-School Scholar … AP Scholar with Honor … High School Peer Tutor … son of Chris and Melissa Goins … has a younger sister, Grace.

Corrigan on Goins … “Adam is an athletic, two-way midfielder. The thing that I like about all the midfielders in the class is that they have the potential to be two-way guys. Adam is from a very good program in Philadelphia. He has been a part of a tremendously successful team there.”

Bobby Gray – Attack – San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep/Deerfield Academy (PG)
Rated as the 19th best post-graduate recruit in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … spent his post-graduate year at Deerfield Academy in Connecticut … received All-America honors during his junior and senior seasons at St. Ignatius … team captain during his senior season at St. Ignatius along with receiving the John M. Senyard Award (team MVP) … first team all-WCAL during his final two seasons at St. Ignatius … Adrenaline All-American in 2011 … 2008 Adrenaline All-Star Team … Nike Blue Chip … 2010 Gait Cup All-Star Team … Under Armour All-American Midwest Team … also played football at Deerfield Academy … son of Bill and Suzy Gray.

Corrigan on Gray … “Bobby did a post-grad year at Deerfield after coming from the West Coast. That was especially good for him since he was coming from an environment where the competition game-in and game-out wasn’t at the same level as it was at Deerfield. He had a great year and he will bring some maturity, both physically and in every other way, to his freshman year.”

Matt Kavanagh – Attack – Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade/Hotchkiss (PG)
Ranked as the top post-graduate recruit for the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … won gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championships in Turku, Finland during the summer of 2012 … was named tournament MVP and most outstanding attackman at the U-19 world championships in addition to being on the all-tournament team … lead Team USA with 20 goals, in addition to 11 assists, at the U-19 tournament … Under Armour Underclassman All-American … spent a post-graduate year at Hotchkiss … team MVP at Chaminade during his senior campaign … led Chaminade in scoring during his junior and senior seasons … attackman of the year in New England West 1 … Newsday first team all-Long Island … MSG Varsity first team all-Tri State … Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) attackman of the year as a senior in addition to earning CHSAA all-league honors as a junior and senior … played Junior A hockey for NY Applecore in the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL) … son of Kevin and Mary Kavanagh … has four brothers (Kevin, Brendan, Patrick and Christopher) and one sister (Colleen).

Corrigan on Kavanagh … “Matt had a terrific summer (with the U.S. U-19 team). He’s a year older after having gone from Chaminade to Hotchkiss for a post-grad year, where he polished an already accomplished game. He proved that this summer. He is going to be a very, very good player at this level. He can do a lot of different things on the field.”

Matt Landis – LSM/Defense – Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial
Ranked No. 66 on the Inside Lacrosse “Power 100 Freshmen” rankings … rated as the 18th best defenseman in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … played four seasons of varsity lacrosse at Pelham Memorial High School … earned All-America and first-team all-state honors during his senior season … four-time Westchester County All-League … Westchester County All-Section as a junior and senior … captained his squad during his final two campaigns … also a standout on the Pelham Memorial football and hockey teams … named Pelham Memorial’s 2012 Athlete of the Year … third team all-New York State linebacker during his junior season … Westchester County All-League in football as a sophomore and junior in addition to being Westchester County All-Section in 2011 … was the football team’s defensive MVP as a sophomore and junior … played four seasons of hockey at Pelham Memorial … earned first team all-state (Division II) accolades in hockey as a junior and senior … received the 2012 Russ Simons Sportsmanship Award (only one award per conference) … two-time hockey team captain … three-time Westchester County All-League and two-time Westchester County All-Section on the ice … a high honor roll student … National Science Honor Society … very active in community service activities while at Pelham High School … son of Robert and Norma Landis.

Andrew Larrabee – Goalie – Bedford, N.Y./Byram Hills
Ranked as the nation’s 15th best goalie in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … a four-year letter winner at Byram Hills High School … A played in 62 games, including 57 starts, over four seasons … notched single-season school records for wins (15 in 2011), saves (233 in 2011) and team goals-against average (5.0 in 2012) … his 730 career saves also are a record at Byram Hills … also scored one goal and had eight assists in addition to picking up 144 ground balls … did not surrender a double-digit goal total during his senior season … three-time all-section, all-league and all-county … 2011 Journal News Westchester County Goaltender of the Year … MSG Varsity First Team All-Region as a junior … three-time team captain … helped team post a 15-5 record and advance to the sectional finals during his junior campaign … team appeared in the sectional semifinals during his freshman and senior seasons … received the 2010 Byram Hills Coaches Award … selected to the Section 1 Exceptional Senior Showcase … participated in the Jake Reed Blue Chip Camp … Maverik Showtime All-Star and Hotbeds All-Star … lettered in ice hockey as a freshman and sophomore … son of Leonard Larrabee III and Susan Larrabee … has an older sister, Rebecca.

Corrigan on Larrabee … “Andrew had a very good senior year and is a guy who can give us quality depth at the goalie position. With the guys we have returning along with Andrew, I feel that we have quality depth there.”

Eddy Lubowicki – Attack – Somerset, N.J./St. Joseph’s (Metuchen)
Rated as the 33rd best attackman in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … played on the St. Joseph’s varsity squad for four seasons … copped All-America and all-state honors during his junior and senior seasons … tallied 417 career points, including 105 during his senior campaign … two-time team captain … Champion All-American participant … competed in the 2011 Under Armour Underclassmen Games … also captained the football squad at St. Joseph’s … member of the National Honor Society and the German National Honor Society … son of Ed and Beth Lubowicki … has a younger sister, Shelby.

Corrigan on Lubowicki … “Eddy has all-around skills for the game. He knows how to play the game. He’s skilled with the ball, but smart off the ball. He is one of three very strong attackmen in this class.”

Cole Riccardi – Midfield – Madison, N.J./Delbarton
Three-year letter winner at Delbarton … earned first-team all-state honors during his senior campaign as he helped his Delbarton team capture the state title … team also was the runner-up in the Tournament of Champions … played in the Champion All-American Showcase in the summer of 2012 … selected to the Pitt-Fitch Division All-Star Team during his senior year … also lettered three seasons in football at Delbarton … football squad won the state title during his senior campaign … started two seasons at tight end and linebacker … captained both his lacrosse and football teams as a senior … first-team all-area in football during his senior season … also copped first-team all-conference accolades in football … earned the Morris County Scholar-Athlete Award as a senior … played club lacrosse for the Patriot Elite with fellow incoming Notre Dame freshman Thomas Stephan … son of Richard and Cameron Riccardi … father played lacrosse and football at the University of Virginia and was a teammate of Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan on the Cavalier lacrosse squad … has one older sister, Maclain.

Corrigan on Riccardi … “Cole is a big, athletic player coming out of a very good program at Delbarton. He can help us in a variety of ways because of his all-around skill set.”

Jack Sheridan – Defense – West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep
Earned three letters in lacrosse at Malvern Prep … copped All-America honors from US Lacrosse during his senior season … also received All-Inter Ac, All-Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association (EPSLA) and first-team All-Main Line accolades as a senior … team captain during his senior season … Under Armour Underclassman All-American … as a junior, he collected All-Inter Ac, All-EPSLA and second-team All-Main Line honors … lettered in football at Malvern Prep during his junior year … member of the National Honor Society … National Merit Scholar-Commended … son of Jerry and Mary Ann Sheridan … has an older sister (Corynn) and two younger brothers (Michael and Joseph).

Thomas Stephan – Defense – Chatham, N.J./Chatham

Kyle Trolley – Midfield – Peterborough, Ontario/Culver Academy (Ind.)
Ranked No. 96 on the Inside Lacrosse “Power 100 Freshmen” rankings … rated as the 30th best midfielder in the class of 2012 by Inside Lacrosse … played for Canada at the 2012 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Under-19 World Championships in Turku, Finland … Canada won the silver medal at the U-19 world championships … played lacrosse for three seasons at Culver Military Academy (Ind.) … was named the 2010 Indiana Offensive Player of the Year as he helped Culver to the state title … member of Team Ontario that captured the 2010 Canadian National Championship … won the 2012 North American Elite League title with Culver … three-year member of the Peterborough Junior “A” Lakers … played hockey for three seasons while at Culver … team captain of the hockey squad during his senior season … son of Kent and Leanne Trolley.

Corrigan on Trolley … “Kyle is the first Canadian that we’ve had at Notre Dame. He’s going to bring a little different skill set to us. He is a fast and athletic player. He’s very good offensively. He also was a very good hockey player and captain of the Culver team and now that he’s just playing lacrosse, that’ll hurry his development for us this year.”
