UConn and Fairfield Team Up For Newtown Lacrosse Clinic

Loyola Lacrosse Player Recounts Trip to Newtown

The UConn and Fairfield women’s lacrosse programs combined to host a clinic with the Newtown Lacrosse Club on Tuesday afternoon that was attended by students from second grade through high school.

“We spent five to six hours in Newtown playing lacrosse and having so much fun with the kids, this was an awesome experience,” said UConn head lacrosse coach Katie Woods. “I think the Newtown students had a blast and our student-athletes got to see that there’s more to playing lacrosse in college than just the games.”

Connecticut and Fairfield play on Saturday, March 9 at Fairfield at 12 p.m. The two programs sent coaches and student-athletes to Newtown to work together to spread the game and love of lacrosse. The Newtown Lacrosse Club has a youth and high school group that took part in the day’s activities.

“The student-athletes from UConn and Fairfield mingled and helped worked together and put aside the fact that they’re opponents to help the girls in Newtown,” said Woods. “This was an event I think our women will never forget. Hopefully the students in Newtown feel the same way.”

For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
