Syracuse’ Hakeem Lecky’s Lacrosse Journey, Black History Month

Take a look into Hakeem Lecky’s path to Syracuse. It’s a unique journey that many people don’t know about. The best thing about this video (below) is that it didn’t solely focus on Lecky’s athleticism. Announcers today, (almost) always make a correlation between black lacrosse players and athleticism. There are clear signs of athleticism in many black lacrosse players, but aren’t there in non-black players as well?

The point is, rarely do we seem to grasp that pointing out a player’s skill before athleticism is admissible. Certain “journalists” refused to acknowledge Jovan Miller’s skills until he was named an All-American at Syracuse. He is the first African American All-American at Syracuse since the great Jim Brown. Will Lecky join them?

Hakeen Lecky had never played lacrosse until his freshman year in high school but the sport has changed his life.
