Philippines Lacrosse Association Promotes Ron Garcia  to President

The Philippines Lacrosse Association (PLA) announces that former Vice President Ron Garcia has been promoted to President of the PLA. Inaugural president and founder of the PLA, Josh Acut will take on the position of Director of Business Development and Noel Ciocon will fill in the role of Vice President. Other members of the Board of Directors for the PLA include Jeremy Rualo Sr., Managing Director; Justin Manjares, Director of International Affairs & Outreach; and Justin Rodis, Director of Recruiting.

Ron Garcia brings a wealth of lacrosse experience to the leadership role of the PLA. He has been involved in the lacrosse community in Colorado for the past 30 years as a player, coach and referee. Ron is currently the Head Coach of Air Academy High School, Colorado and was recently named the 2013 4A Coach of the Year by the Colorado High School Lacrosse Coaches Association.

“It is an exciting time for the Philippines Lacrosse Association; we have accomplished a lot in a short period of time and I am honored to be chosen to lead the PLA. I’d like to thank Josh Acut for his vision and tenure; without him, we would not be here. I look forward to taking Philippines Lacrosse to the next level. It is the mission of the Philippines Lacrosse Association to introduce, develop and grow the sport of lacrosse in the Philippines. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America, and it is our vision to make it the fastest growing sport in the Philippines. I am fortunate to have a solid core of dedicated individuals on the board of directors with me and I am confident that we will succeed. The future looks bright for the PLA.”

The Philippines Lacrosse Association will be sending a contingency to Silliman University, in Dumaguete City, Philippines on September 3, 2013, to set up clinics and introduce lacrosse to the Philippines for the first time.

The Philippines Lacrosse Association will be in Maryland the weekend of August 16-18, 2013. They will be participating in an exhibition game against a USA all-star team at the Ocean City Lacrosse Classic, in Ocean City, MD on Saturday, August 17 at 8pm and an exhibition game against Team Israel at St. Paul’s School, near Baltimore, MD on Sunday, August 18 at 12 pm. A youth lacrosse clinic and fundraiser will be planned to precede Sunday’s event.
