Lafayette Announces Men’s Lacrosse Recruiting Class of 2017


EASTON, Pa. – Men’s lacrosse Head Coach Jim Rogalski has announced the addition of 15 freshman and two transfers to the Leopards’ program as part of the Class of 2017. The group includes nine newcomers from New Jersey, four from New York, and one each from Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

“I am extremely excited about this class,” Rogalski said, “my staff, Matt Musci and Ed Williams, worked very hard to bring in a class that will impact this program immediately from top to bottom.”

“We feel that we have brought in a group of not only good players, but more importantly individuals with strong work ethic and high character.” Rogalski continued, “They will represent Lafayette College with integrity, respect, and honor. We are very proud to have them as members of the Lafayette lacrosse family.”

The two transfers come to the Leopards from UMass and Mercer University. Eight midfielders, five attackers, two defenders, a goalie and a longstick midfielder make up the class.

Adam Broeckaert (St. Andrews Episcopal School/Great Falls, Va.): Spent a season at Mercer University…was 3-6 in faceoffs last season…four-year varsity letterman in lacrosse at St. Andrews Episcopal School…team captain and team’s MVP in 2011 an 2012…named to the All-MAC team in 2012…set school record for most ground balls in a season with 181 in his senior year…won 79 percent of his faceoffs in his senior season…four-year varsity letterman in indoor track and field…three-year varsity letterman in cross country.

Nicholas Buchanan (Don Bosco Prep/Wykoff, N.J.): Named All-County, All-League and captain at Don Bosco…part of the N.J. Non-Public A State Champions and Tournament of Champions Finalist…team was Bergen County Champions and Bergen County Lacrosse Team of the Year.

Erik Cannon (Don Bosco Prep/Ridgewood, N.J.): Three-year varsity letterwinner…named team captain and MVP in his senior season…member of the N.J. Non-Public A State Championship team…earned defensive team MVP his junior year…2013 US Lacrosse All-American, First Team MSG All-NJ, First Team All-State, First Team All-Bergen County, First Team All-Gibbs Division, First Team All-NJ Non-Public A, First Team All-Suburban, Second Team MSG All-Tristate…picked up over 200 ground balls and scored eight goals in his career.

Dillon Confalone (Delbarton/Morristown, N.J.): Named to the NJ All-State Team and was selected to the N.J. All Star Team…tallied 17 goals and 11 assists his senior season.

Matthew Cortese (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.): Two-time New York State Champion…saw time in goal both seasons…played for Long Island Sting Black and was named an All Star in the summer.

Keegan Hickey (Hunterdon Central/Flemington, N.J.): Team captain his senior year…named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-State, First Team All-West Jersey, team MVP and Gill Gibs Senior All Star in 2013…Second Team All-Conference selection and team Most Improved Player in 2012.

Eric Joseph (Smithtown West/Smithtown, N.Y.): Three-year varsity letterwinner in lacrosse…helped lead Smithtown West to the Suffolk County Lacrosse Championship game in 2010 and 2013…selected to the 2012 Rising Senior Suffolk County All-Star game…three-time Varsity Scholar Athlete.

Liam Kearney (Friends Academy/Bayville, N.Y.): Four-year varsity starter…named All-County…team won Nassau County Class C Championship.

Kevin Lewis (Delbarton/Morristown, N.J.): Named Morris County Tournament MVP…team won Morris County Championship.

Gerard Mahoney (South Side/Rockville Centre, N.Y.): Two-year varsity starter…led the team in man up goals…played club lacrosse for Long Island Raiders and Rock Lax…three-year varsity soccer player and captain.

Billy Maltz (Ridgewood/Ridgewood, N.J.): Captain of N.J. Group 3 State Champions…named to First Team All-County, Second Team All-State and Second Team All-Division…member of 2013 Gibbs All-Star Team.

Charles McCooe (Ridgewood/Ridgewood, N.J.): Member of 2012-13 N.J. Group 3 Champions…also played four years of football.

Declan McGuire (Benet Academy/Hinsdale, Ill.): Two-year varsity starter and captain his senior year…two-time First Team All-Conference Selection…Illinois State All Star Team selection…was also an All-State hockey player…named an Illinois State Scholar.

Jack McMahon (Mt. Lebanon/Mount Lebanon, Pa.): Named First Team All-Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association…selected to the First Team All-WPIAL Lacrosse Team.

Robert Orazietti (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.): Spent his freshman year at UMass…four-year starter at Mountain Lakes…named a U.S. Lacrosse All American in 2012…was First Team All-State, All-County and All Gibbs in 2012…named to the All-Star Ledger, All-MSG and All-Daily Record in 2012…received the William Dwyre award as offensive MVP at Mountain Lakes his senior season…ranks in the top ten all-time in scoring at Mountain Lakes…2011 Star Ledger Junior Team and All-Daily Record…2010 Star Ledger All-Sophomore Team and All-Daily Record…2009 Star Ledger All-Freshmen Team…also won a state championship in football and was an all-conference selection his senior year.

Jason Sands (Loomis Chaffee/Greenwich, Conn.): Four-year varsity player and captain his senior year…named to the Western New England Prep School All Star Team his senior season.

Matthew Webb (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.): Three-year varsity starter…named First team All-State, First Team All-County and Second Team All-Fitch Division his senior season…scored 19 goals and had 21 assists as a senior.
