Ryder Bohlander Joins Manhattanville Lacrosse

Valiants Add Maryland Grad Bohlander as Top Assistant Coach

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville head men’s lacrosse coach Kevin Warnock is pleased to announced the recent hiring of former Division I defenseman Ryder Bohlander as his top assistant coach for the 2014 season. A University of Maryland product, Bohlander will help to reshape the Valiant program and bring the squad back toward the top of the Freedom Conference and the region.

“As a program we are excited to welcome someone of Ryder’s skill level and knowledge base to Manhattanville College,” Warnock said. “Ryder is a local product who has played at the highest levels of the game, and played under some of the best coaches in the nation. He is ready to get started and will make an immediate impact on our men.”

A native of Katonah, N.Y., Bohlander comes to Purchase with a strong lacrosse pedigree, having spent four years with Division I powerhouse University of Maryland from 2008-11. He was a four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on defense for the Terps, amassing 58 ground balls and causing 30 turnovers in his final two seasons. He helped the squad to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure, including a berth in the NCAA Div. I Championship game as a senior.

He received the “Iron Terp” award as the strongest pound-for-pound athlete on the team as a junior, and after his senior season received the school’s Dick Edell “Big Man” award, which goes to the player who best embodies the positive and selfless qualities of the former coach. Off the field, Bohlander was a five-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and a two-time ACC Honor Roll recipient.

Bohlander spent 2013 on the roster of the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse after originally signing with the MLL’s New York Lizards, and he has also coached lacrosse at multiple levels since graduation.

“As a Westchester native, I look forward to helping out a local program on the rise,” Bohlander said. “With the incredible support of the Athletic Department and the College we have all the necessary resources to recruit and build a championship program. I can’t wait to help tap into the local talent and use my knowledge and experience to help the current student-athletes.”

Manhattanville will spend the fall semester preparing for a promising spring schedule, which begins on February 22 at 1 p.m. against SUNY Maritime.
