Belmont Abbey Lacrosse Adds Corey Bulken As Assistant Coach

Belmont Abbey men’s lacrosse head coach Chris Barrett has announced the addition of former LeMoyne All-American Corey Bulken as an assistant coach.

Bulken arrives Belmont Abbey after spending the last two seasons at Washington College where he assisted with the offense and oversaw the face off unit. In his two years he mentored the development of an All-American at the face off X while raising the teams face off percentage from 35 percent in 2011 to 55 percent in 2012 and the again in the 2013 season to 63.4 percent. In that span Washington College made it to the NCAA tournament both years after a three year absence.

“I am very excited to have Coach Bulken on staff here at the Abbey,” Barrett said. “I have had nothing but respect for Corey from his time as a player at LeMoyne to his time spent at Washington College as an assistant coach. He is going to make immediate impact in our program on the field with our face-off unit and offense and off the field with recruiting”.

In his senior season at Le Moyne College he led Division II in face-off percentage, winning 69.2 percent of his draws, and was named the USILA Division II Specialty Player of the Year. A two-time All-American, he earned first team honors as a senior and second-team honors as a junior. He was also named to the All-Northeast 10 Conference first team following both of those seasons. He was named Le Moyne’s Male Athlete of the Year and his team’s Most Valuable Player for 2011, led his team in face-off percentage three consecutive years and in ground balls two consecutive years, and played in three consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship games.

During his collegiate lacrosse career, Bulken also worked as a counselor and coach at several lacrosse camps in central New York and completed an internship with LeMoyne’s sports information department. He was chosen to attend the 2011 NCAA Career in Sports Forum and earned a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations from LeMoyne in 2011.
