US Lacrosse Announces 2014 Men’s Post-Collegiate Rules

BALTIMORE, Nov. 18, 2013 — US Lacrosse today announced the 2014 men’s post-collegiate rules for players ranging from recently graduated college players through age 45-and-older. The US Lacrosse Men’s Game Committee and US Lacrosse Board of Directors approved the rules, which are the result of modifications to the current NCAA men’s rules that focus primarily on age-appropriate checking and body contact.

“Over the past year, US Lacrosse has worked diligently on rules that all leagues and events can adopt to create a more consistent experience from one event to the next,” said Stephen Berger, US Lacrosse men’s game director. “We truly believe we have a solid set of rules and will look to evolve them with continued input from the lacrosse community like we do annually with our youth rules. US Lacrosse would like to thank the various post-collegiate club leaders and ambassadors in the game—we would not have been able to develop the complete set of rules without you. ”

Most rule variations are based on the current NCAA rules, but some variations are based on other established rules, such as prior NCAA, International and rules used at previous post-collegiate events. The age brackets and corresponding rules, including the contact permitted, are designed to allow players to continue to be active and participate in lacrosse, to play competitively with players close to their ages and capabilities, and to enjoy the camaraderie of the lacrosse community.

Suggested age breakdown for post-collegiate leagues and tournaments are:
30 years of age and under – Elite
31-35 years of age – Masters
36 to 45 years of age – Grand Masters (suggest 5-year groupings)
Over 45 years of age – Super Grand Masters (suggest 5-year groupings)

The US Lacrosse Men’s Game Post-Collegiate Club Subcommittee is working with post-collegiate leagues and tournaments across the country to endorse and adopt these rules for play, much like its youth rules adoption efforts.

Several tournaments have already endorsed the rules for 2014 play, which will be in effect for the 2014 World Festivals, hosted by US Lacrosse in conjunction with the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship, both of which are July 10-19, 2014 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colo.
