Holy Cross Names John Carroll Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach

WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross has named 2012 Albany graduate John Carroll as an assistant men’s lacrosse coach, as announced by head coach Jim Morrissey and athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr.

“I am excited to bring John Carroll into the Holy Cross men’s lacrosse program,” said Morrissey. “He is a very knowledgeable young coach who will help mentor our three young goaltenders. John is also very well connected in the Long Island lacrosse community and continuing to recruit that region is a primary focus for us.”

Carroll has worked for the past five years as a private lacrosse goalie coach teaching kids of all ages the proper mechanics, skills and techniques required to play goalie. He also spent the summers of 2011 and 2012 as an instructor at Pro Player Lacrosse Camps.

As a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team at Albany as a goalie, he appeared in 46 games starting in 31 of them. He finished his career ranked sixth all-time in school history with 378 saves. In 2010 he started all 16 games for the Great Danes and recorded 185 saves. His 185 saves ranked eighth in Division I for the season and 12th all-time in school history. He also ranked second in the America East Conference with a .514 save percentage and 11.6 saves per game. Also in 2010 he was named to the America East All-Tournament team and was named the America East Player of the Week. As a freshman he was named the Rookie of the Week twice.

A native of Nesconset, N.Y., Carroll attended Smithtown High School East where he played three seasons of varsity lacrosse as a goalie and three seasons of varsity football as a running back and linebacker. He was captain of both teams in his senior year.

Carroll was a History major with United States History Concentration and a minor in Journalism. He graduated from Albany in 2012.
