2013 was a great year for Lacrosse Playground. We’ve continued to grow and bring you coverage that includes equipment, apparel, and the lifestyle we love so much. In January, we launched our water-activated convertible shorts line (Holiday Sale going on right now!) and added a new dimension to lacrosse apparel. Along the way, thanks to our amazing readers and fans, we were able to share topics, both heartwarming and controversial. And now, as we sit here in our HQ on New Year’s Eve, we bring you the Top Ten Most Popular Lacrosse Articles of 2013.

10. House with Indoor Lacrosse Field for Sale

From October 16:

The Wall Street Journal reports that former investment banker Joseph Zimmel and his wife Alison Blood, a former Wall Streeter, are selling their Connecticut compound for $10.85 million.

They bought the seven-bedroom home, which features an indoor basketball court, an indoor lacrosse turf field, heated pool/hot tub, and an indoor movie theater.

9. Trinity College Brings Us The Sideline Celebration Of The Year

From April 8:

Trinity Lacrosse gives us the sideline celly of the year straight out of Hartford, Conn. After Senior Matt Cohen (East Lyme, Conn.) scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal with four seconds on clock, Freshmen Henry Coote and Michael Lofrese go paddling down the river. The goal gave Trinity a key 10-9 win over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men’s lacrosse action. Trinity improves to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the league and Bowdoin drops to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the league. View the celebration below.

7. John Ranagan Bulldozes Loyola Player, Breaks Stick With Body At Same Time

From April 30:

Just got a tip in our inbox about Johns Hopkins’ big man, John Ranagan, bodying a Loyola player in the second quarter of their game this past weekend. The 6’3″ Ranagan hits him so hard that he actually breaks his opposing player’s shaft with his shoulder, snapping it in half! Loyola would go on to win the game, 8-4. View the aggressive play below. 6. High School Player Rips Top Cheddar From 30 Yards

From May 7:

Corona Del Mar’s Jack Ortlieb rips a shot with just seconds left in the 2nd quarter in a semi final game against JSerra. The momentum was huge going into the third as CDM broke the 2-2 tie just before the half. Watch the 30 yard top cheddar snipe below.

This was the very first Harlem Shake (February 11) video we received! Wow.

4. Johns Hopkins Signs 5 Year Old (Video)

From December 5:

Marquise Long, a 5 year old diagnosed with a pediatric brain cancer, signs with Johns Hopkins through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation’s (FOJ) mission is to help improve the quality of life of children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors. Hopkins has supported FOJ for years.

3. Lehigh Goalie Scores Full Field Goal

From April 16:

Lehigh goalie, Matt Poillon, scored his first-career goal on a 65-yard shot in the third quarter, a goal which turned momentum back in the Mountain Hawks’ favor. Lehigh would go on to win the Patriot League regular season title. View the amazing goal below.

1. Auburn Lacrosse Player Takes Female Hostage Trying To Replicate Grand Theft Auto Video Game

From September 24:

An Auburn lacrosse player was behind bars this weekend after he allegedly stole a truck, kidnapped a woman, and hit nine parked cars. Zachary Burgess, a 6’0″ defenseman from Hoover High School in Alabama, is currently a freshman on Auburn’s lacrosse team. Auburn plays in the MCLA.

According to WDSU 6 News Burgess, trying to make sense of what he did, allegedly told an officer during questioning that he “wanted to see what it was really like to play the video game Grand Theft Auto.”

Two other big stories took place in the SAME WEEK as this sad one – Cornell Hazing and Marquette LSD Trip.
