STX Inks Three-Year Deal with IWLCA Capital Cup

Elkridge, MD (January 8, 2014) — The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today STX will serve as title sponsor of the IWCLA Capital Cup from 2014-2016.

Gothard Lane, IWLCA, Executive Director, said, “Partnering with STX, one of the leading brands in women’s lacrosse, speaks volumes about where the Capital Cup is heading. Attracting the sport’s premier brands to the IWLCA ultimately translates into greater opportunities for student-athletes to demonstrate their talents at a first-class facility in front of an impressive pool of college coaches.”

The 2014 Capital Cup will expand to a four-day tournament to accommodate 355 teams and be held July 17-20 at the River City Sportsplex in Midlothian, Virginia. Teams will be scheduled by class year and compete over a two-day period. All IWLCA tournaments in 2014 are open to student-athletes from the graduating classes of 2015-17.

“STX is proud to be the title sponsor for such an elite event that showcases one of the top tournaments that women’s lacrosse has to offer,” said Kadie Stamper, STX’s Category Brand Manager for women’s lacrosse. “We are looking forward to the best Capital Cup yet with many more to follow!”

Team registration for this summer’s event sold out within 10 minutes of registration opening up this past October.

IWLCA recruiting tournaments have skyrocketed in popularity since 2011. In addition to the number of sanctioned tournaments growing during that time span from two to five in 2014, tournament field sizes have also tripled. An average of 275 coaches traveled to each IWLCA tournament in 2013 as well, including an association record 557 at the President’s Cup in Orlando, Fla.
