Pioneer duo makes 27-man roster for FIL World Lacrosse Championships

DENVER – Attacker Zach Miller (Steamburg, N.Y.) and future Pioneer midfielder Brendan Bomberry (Vaughan, Ontario) have both been selected to the Iroquois Nationals’ 27-man roster for the FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Commerce City, Colo., next month.

“We are thrilled to learn of Zach Miller and Brendan Bomberry making the Iroquois National Team, and being able to see them compete in the 2014 World Games here in Denver,” head coach Bill Tierney said. “Both of these young men will do a fantastic job on the field as they represent DU Men’s Lacrosse and our University. More importantly however, they will be playing for their families and their people, who invented the game of lacrosse.”

Miller scored five goals in the two BIG EAST Tournament games, including four goals in the final to lead Denver to a 14-7 win over Villanova. The Steamburg, N.Y., native also co-led Denver in scoring in the Pioneers’ 9-5 NCAA First Round victory over North Carolina, before adding two more in DU’s 15-6 win against Drexel in the quarterfinals. In Denver’s win over Ohio State (March 15), Miller was involved in seven of Denver’s nine goals, scoring five and assisting on two others to lead the Pioneers to a 9-5 victory.

Bomberry was the No. 4 ranked player for the Class of 2013 by Inside Lacrosse, and has 192 points (69g, 123a) in his five seasons with the Six Nations Arrows, including 38 points (13,25) in 11 games in 2014. In the U19 Iroquois Nationals upset of Team USA, Bomberry recorded a hat trick, leading the team to a Bronze Medal in the U-19 World Lacrosse Championships. Bomberry will join the Pioneers

The World Championships will be played at Dicks Sports Goods Park from July 10-19.
