IMG Academy announces next wave of lacrosse enrollees for 2014-15

Bradenton, Fla. (August 27, 2014) – Following a successful second season that saw the program finish with a combined 16-4 overall record, competing against the likes of Don Bosco (N.J.), Lawrenceville (N.J.), Haverford School (Pa.), Episcopal of Dallas (Texas) and Army (N.Y.) and Navy Prep (R.I.), IMG Academy has announced the latest wave of lacrosse enrollees for 2014-15.

 

Featured additions include:

 

Nick Mirabella (Alpharetta, Ga./Post-graduate/Defense) – Mirabella stands 6-foot-3 and was a standout defenseman in 2013-14 as he earned Georgia Class 6A All-State honors in addition to earning 2014 Defensive Player of the Year honors for his school. Off the field, Mirabella works with the North Metro Miracle League (Ga.) and serves as a youth lacrosse coach.

 

Foster Cuomo (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/Senior/Attack) – Cuomo has achieved success in both box and field lacrosse, twice named to Team Ontario (2012, 2014), helping lead the team to a silver medal in the All-Canada games in 2012. Cuomo was also a member of Team Canada where he earned silver medalist honors in 2013, and gold in 2014 at the Brogdan Cup. He has also earned All-Star honors at the Gait Cup, NSCLA, Blue Chip Elite and All-Canada Games. Cuomo is verbally committed to Quinnipiac University (Conn.).

 

Robert Hudson (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/Senior/Midfield) – A 6-foot-3 presence at midfield, Hudson is an accomplished box and field player. He was selected to participate in the Adrenaline All-Canada games, winning gold in 2012 and silver in 2013, and made the All-Star roster in 2013. Hudson was also part of the Sweetlax squad that won the 2013 Dick’s Sporting Goods National Championship. Through his box career, Hudson has captained his minor lacrosse teams to three All-Ontario provincial championships.

 

Mike Dowell (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada/Senior/Midfield) – Dowell is a 6-foot-3 long stick midfielder verbally committed to the University of Vermont. Dowell has been a letterman since his freshman year, and won an OFSAA Championship in 2012, in addition to earning All-Star honors at the King of the Hill Tournament.

 

Brad Kent (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Junior/Attack) – Kent is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound attackman who can shoot on the run and dodge the cage. Kent has played for both the Fire Lacrosse Club as well as Team Florida.

 

Tyler Wilkinson (Austin, Texas/Junior/Midfield/Attack) – Last season, Wilkinson led his high school team in points and played club lacrosse with both Stickstar and Blackwolf. Wilkinson was selected for both the Blue Chip 225 All-Star Game and the T-99 All-Star Game.

 

Tyler Levine (Woodmere, N.Y./Sophomore/Midfield) – Levine is a midfielder who previously played with the Long Island Storm and the Long Island Thunder, in addition to solid play with his high school squad.

 

Mitchell Laffin (Onondaga Nation, N.Y./Senior/Attack) – Last year, Laffin led his squad in goals while claiming First Team All-League honors. Laffin has played club lacrosse with the Red Hawks, the Central New York Thoroughbreds and the Road Warriors.

 

All join a talented incoming class that includes the likes of Max Murdoch (Quebec, Canada/Senior/Attack), Tehoka Nanticoke (Ohsweken, Canada/Junior/Attack), Zach Pinney (Ithaca, N.Y./Post-graduate/Defense) and Antoine Asselin (Quebec, Canada/Senior/Midfielder). The newcomers will add firepower to a program that also features top returning players: Ben French (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Junior/Attack), a Vermont commit; Tyler Liotta (Bradenton, Fla./Senior/Midfield), committed to Hofstra; Massimo Buccci (Ithaca, N.Y./Senior/Midfield), committed to Georgetown; and Marc-Antoine Pion-Fregeau (Quebec, Canada/Post-graduate/Defense) who is accepted to enroll at Harvard University.

 

The IMG Academy lacrosse program is unique in its approach to player development. The program is the first in the U.S. to integrate box and field lacrosse training, and is also one of the first in the world to tailor its training regimen based on data and analyses collected by IMG Academy performance staff and sponsors. As a result, IMG Academy has been among the highest scoring teams in the United States, and has placed student-athletes in elite college programs including Harvard, Albany, Vermont, Ithaca and Stevenson.
