CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Chris Wojcik ’96, The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Lacrosse, has announced that Jake Gambitsky, Stephen Jahelka and Sean Mahon will serve as team captains for the upcoming season.

“I am pleased to announce that Jake Gambitsky, Stephen Jahelka, and Sean Mahon have been elected captains for the 2014-2015 season,” Wojcik stated. “Leadership development is an important component of our mission at Harvard and our lacrosse program. Each of our captains possess intrinsic leadership qualities, and this year I expect them to learn and grow as they help guide our team.”

Gambitsky started all 17 games in goal last season for the Ivy League champion Crimson, posting a 10-7 record with a 9.87 goals against average and .506 save percentage. A native of Wantagh, N.Y., Gambitsky was especially tough against conference foes, allowing just 8.63 goals against in Ancient Eight play with a save percentage of .548. He also helped the Crimson to four wins over top-20 opponents, and was voted to the All-Ivy League second team for his efforts.

Jahelka proved to be one of the top defensemen in the nation last year and was selected to both the All-Ivy League second team and All-NEILA first team. Playing against some of the highest scoring offenses in the country, Jahelka helped limit opponents to fewer than 10 goals 11 times while Harvard ranked first in conference play allowing just 8.63 goals per game. Jahelka, a native of Garden City, N.Y., finished the year with 36 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers, and also added one goal and two assists for three points.

Mahon contributed a career-high 18 points out of the midfield last year as part of a scoring offense that ranked 22nd in the NCAA. Mahon, who will be the fourth-highest returning scorer on the team, totaled 10 goals and eight assists, and turned in multiple points on seven occasions. Also a native of Garden City, N.Y., Mahon connected for a pair of goals three times last year, including at North Carolina and in the team’s Ivy opener versus Dartmouth.

“Jake, Stephen, and Sean were all major contributors on the field last season, and they have earned the respect of their teammates,” added Wojcik. “Their influence will play a big part in this year’s journey, and I look forward to our partnership as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
