TAMPA, Fla.- The University of Tampa men’s and women’s lacrosse team’s attack units visited the Children’s Wing of Tampa General Hospital on Wednesday as part of their Attack Children’s Cancer campaign.

The players who visited were; from the men’s team attackers Mike Morris, Jake Rooney, Chris Vetter, and Conor Whipple, and from the women’s team attackers Jackie Martin, Amanda Voges, Natalie Carraway, and Christina Burroughs.

Players spent the afternoon talking with patients and keeping them company during their visit while also making a PSA for the lacrosse community to donate to the vs. Cancer foundation to help fight children’s cancer.

Later this month, the men’s program is hosting the Lacrosse vs. Cancer Event, benefiting the Vs. Cancer Foundation on Oct. 25 at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. “We thought it would be a good opportunity for players to actually see, first hand, what they are playing for on Oct. 25th,” noted Tampa Head Lacrosse Coach Rory Whipple about the players visit to Tampa General Hospital.

“Our program is heavily invested in this cause and it is very important to us that the community, Tampa Lacrosse and beyond, get active in this cause,” states Whipple.

“It gives perspective to our student-athletes and also helps break up the day for the kids who are fighting for their lives when they should be at school or playing with their friends” added Tampa Women’s Head Lacrosse Coach Kelly Gallagher.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
