American Forces Network to broadcast marquee Major League Lacrosse games

BOSTON, (Thurs., May 23, 2013)– Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that the American Forces Network (AFN), will broadcast the MLL All-Star Game presented by Moe’s Southwest Grill and Championship Weekend presented by Smartlink, making the games available to all Americans deployed overseas.

“We are honored to have the American Forces Network carry some of our marquee games this season,” said MLL Commissioner David Gross. “This will ensure that our servicemen and women all over the world will have the opportunity to enjoy the best MLL action this summer.”

This is the fourth year the network carries MLL’s games dating back to 2010 when AFN broadcast Championship Weekend for the first time. The following year AFN started broadcasting the All-Star Game as well, allowing American lacrosse fans around the world the opportunity to watch the best talent in outdoor lacrosse.

“We are delighted to continue our relationship with Major League Lacrosse and bring exciting action-packed MLL lacrosse coverage to the U.S. military service members and their families deployed around the world,” said Corey Slutsky, chief of AFN sports programming. “AFN provides a touch of home to those deployed, and having MLL lacrosse on our schedule allows us to continue to provide the best sports to our deserving audience.”

This year, AFN will broadcast the All-Star Game on Saturday, July 13, followed by all of the action from Championship Weekend at PPL Park in Philadelphia, Pa. Saturday and Sunday August 24 and 25.

The AFN service can be accessed outside of the U.S. in 175 territories including U.S. military installations, U.S. embassies and U.S. consulates. AFN can also be accessed by more than 140 U.S. Naval ships at sea outside of U.S. territorial waters.
