Arkansas Razorback Football Recruit Appears To Have Been A Pretty Good Lacrosse Player Too

Connor Wilson put us on to a fairly impressive highlight video of prized Arkansas Razorbacks football signee Alex Collins. One thing…it’s not a football highlight video. It’s lacrosse. If the name, Alex Collins, rings a bell, it’s because his mother caused quite a ruckus when he tried to sign his National Letter of Intent this week. The mother, who wanted him to sign with the U, stole his contract and split town. He would eventually sign with the Razorbacks yesterday.

Five Star ESPN running back recruit, Alex Collins, hales from South Plantation High School in Plantation, Fla, which is not known as a hotbed for lacrosse, but has grown significantly in recent years.

Collins told the Sun Sentinel back in July why he played lacrosse:

I chose to do it for a lot of reasons. You just want to be able to show that any sport is possible as long as you put your mind to it. Learning was hard at the beginning, but once you do it every day, you get better.

View a highlight video of Alex in High School. His athleticism is obvious, but what I’m really impressed with is his grace and ability to control the game. He takes faceoffs, clears the ball, switches hands, and scoops one-handed.

Apparently, after the season, he continued to play lacrosse in a local Summer league. His team went undefeated. Did we miss out on what could have been the next Jim Brown?

I don’t think some of you realize a athlete will be successful at any sport. Does he look fluid, no, but as a coach I’d take 10 of him over these so-called lax bros. Athletes will always be in demand.

Obviously a joke, but no one else who commented even realizes the humor in this article. For instance, the music playing in the video…. come on guys

The comparison to Jim Brown is quite outrageous. He’s a great athlete no one can deny that but he obviously lacks stick skills and lacrosse IQ, two very important things. I Don’t think he could’ve played D1 lacrosse so it’s good he chose football, I’m sure he’ll do great.

Great athlete, not a great lax player. It helps when the other teams are awful. No one wants to step in front of him because he will run them over. Jim Brown was good at lacrosse because he chested the ball and ran people over. He would not be able to hang in the current game.

Black kid + lacrosse = Next Jim Brown. Got it.

This kid isn’t good, he’s just able to outrun everyone. That doesn’t make him a good lacrosse player. This article is weak!

When I wrote this I didn’t see color. I saw a great football player who loves the game of lacrosse.

There are plenty of great football players who love the game of lacrosse and can actually execute on the field. If he loved it, I think he would’ve figured out how to handle the ball and maybe even throw a pass or two. His teammates looked annoyed by him and I would’ve been too.
