Black Knights Jump to Ninth in USILA Coaches’ Poll

WEST POINT, N.Y. – After a hard-fought game at No. 2/3 Syracuse last night, the Army lacrosse team made moves in all three national polls, including a jump to ninth in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches’ Poll.

The Black Knights are ranked in the top 10 for the first time since the 2011 season when Army was ninth in the nation at the beginning of April.

Army is ranked ninth by the coaches and moved up two spots from 11th last week. The Black Knights earned 131 points in the poll and are the highest ranked Patriot League team in the rankings. Denver remains in the top spot, followed by Syracuse. Loyola dropped from eighth to 14th after losing to Holy Cross on Saturday. The Crusaders made their first appearance in the poll at No. 19, while Colgate held steady at No. 20 as the Raiders are off to a 3-0 start.

In the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll, the Black Knights moved up one spot to No. 14 and is the highest rated league school in the rankings with 166 points. Loyola sits at 15th, seven points behind Army, while Holy Cross and Lehigh round out the top 20 at No. 19 and 20, respectively. Denver and Notre Dame own the top two positions.

The Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Poll has the Black Knights up four spots to No. 14. The Greyhounds dropped to 13th, while Holy Cross jumped into the rankings for the first time at No. 17. Colgate dropped back two spots in the rankings to No. 20 after narrowly beating Lafayette at home. Like the USILA poll, Denver and Syracuse are in the first two spots.

Army opens the conference season against the Leopards on Saturday at 12 p.m. at historic Michie Stadium. For tickets, visit www.goARMYsports.com/tickets, call 1-877-TIX-ARMY or stop by the Army Ticket Office located at Gate 3 of Michie Stadium.
