Big Goalie Hit And Penalty

Brad Brandenburg of Colorado Mesa University laying the hat down on an attackman from Lindenwood this morning while on the road in St. Louis. Some say it looks clean. The refs say otherwise for a 3.5 minute penalty. What do you think? Clean hit? View video below. CMU plays Tampa this Saturday @ 1 at home.

that would have been lindenwoods HOME crowd saying that because they were happy they got 3.5 minutes of man-up, not the approximate 8 parents that were there to support mesa.

There was 1 55 left in the game and I was assessed a 2 minute non releasable for targeting the head. Then three 30 second conducts on top of that.

The hit was illegal. I saw it in person. Colorado Mesa’s goalie made clear contact with the lindenwood players head. The extra penalty minutes were for unsportsmanlike. I wonder why Colorado Mesa’s coach didn’t post the blatant two handed slash on Lindenwood’s player with 0:00 on the clock…

He did. Go watch it and see how not blatant it was. One ref gave Mesa 11 penalties in the fourth quarter to help Lindenwood win. Mesa had one penalty in the first 3 quarters. Got to love hometown refs! Only at Lindenwood does a NCAA game have two refs instead of three and the team that has been winning the whole game gets loaded with penalties to make sure the home team wins. Name another school anywhere that doesn’t confirm that their officials are coming before the game. Bush league. The penalty was for leading with the head. Stop making stuff up and saying you were there.

11 penalties in the 4th quarter yes, but check the box score as to when these penalties were assessed. 4 of these 11 were from this video (the hit and 3 conduct fouls), and 2 were assessed at 00:00 in the game for the slash and another unsporstmanlike conduct. now that we are down to 5 penalties, 2 more were for conduct with 9:05 left after a cross-check call…seems if colorado mesa would keep their mouths shut on the field they would have a lot less penalties assessed…

Mesa averaged 5.3 penalties a game prior to the lindenwood game. I could see your point if they were getting 11 penalties per quarter all season. No matter how many Lindenwood people post on here the fact will still remain that Lindenwood failed to secure a full 3 man officiating crew and one of the two officials had a huge hometown bias. Hire three officials like every other NCAA program.

that was a good hit…goalies deserve a little wiggle room as they are always getting lit up on the crease from scenarios like and its a little payback…. as for the unsportsmanlike tack ons a punch i can see but running your mouth in my mind is just part of the game

  21. STL on April 18, 2013 at 1:01 am

It was not a 3.5 minute penalty. For those in attendance they would know it was a 1 minute illegal body check and ended up being a bunch extra tacked on because the goalie couldn’t keep his mouth shut (1 minute unsportsmanlike conduct) and punched a player on his way to the box (another 1 minute unsportsmanlike conduct). The goalie also made an almost identical hit earlier in the game and there was no flag.

*It was also a middie not an attackman.

Nothing wrong with that except if it was a high hit. I’ve made that play before for no penalty. There’s really no other option for the keeper unless you want the attacker going in alone on you.

Basically a clean hit, given that he had the ball in his stick at the time of the hit. Questions that I couldn’t tell, did it go a little high? Was it a charge on the goalie’s part? That attackman now knows the definition of “buddy pass”.
