Today, the Richmond Times-Dispatch announced that the University of Richmond will be adding a Division I Men’s Lacrosse team. However, in order to be in compliance with Title IX, the school has to drop Soccer and Track.

The Dispatch reads:

Soccer and track would be deleted to accommodate lacrosse, in terms of Title IX compliance. The school upgraded lacrosse from club status to varsity club status two years ago.

The article additionally states:

UR determined that it wanted lacrosse, but also that it didn’t want to add a women’s sport to comply with Title IX in that way.

We will provide you with information as it develops.
