California Box Lacrosse

FACT #1: 7 out of 8 NCAA scoring leaders come from a Box lacrosse background.

FACT #2: Something special is happening in California.

All you East Coasters out there might not have heard about Shaydon Santos and his Cali Lax All-Stars youth box lacrosse teams, but they are making lots of noise in California’s Bay Area. Not only do they have the sweetest uniforms on the planet, their game looks good too.

Basing his teachings in his Canadian Box lacrosse roots, NLL veteran Shaydon Santos is helping american field players out big time: by teaching them Canadian Box lacrosse. ‘Amazing stick skills and working in tight spaces’ are just two of the many benefits field players can draw from learning ‘REAL’ box lacrosse skills. So basically; if you wanna be a good player, practice hard. If you wanna be a great player…play Box.

With over a decade of NLL experience behind him and some awesome ideas about the future, Shaydon is pretty much revolutionizing the landscape of American youth lacrosse and he wants you to be a part of it.

Each spring Shaydon hosts the Bay Area Super Series, which is the world’s largest Box lacrosse tournament…oh, and it’s also a field tournament too. Each year in May over 500 players gather in the Bay Area from all over the States, Canada, and abroad to put it on the line. By embracing the ‘hybrid’ nature of his coaching style, Shaydon set up this tourney to see who the greatest team on the planet is…and what style they play.

The coolest part of all this is that Shaydon has asked me to be a coach, and along with fellow NLL & MLL vet Tim Booth, we’re working real hard to keep FACT #2 going.

Here’s a video of Cali Lax heading up to Seattle for a Stealth game and two days of battle with the Jr. Stealth…look out for Paul Rabil, Lewis Ratcliff and other Stealth players.

In 2008 former professional lacrosse player, Zach Heffner formed his own photography company so he could pursue his own unique style and brand of image making. A few years later, Verdict Photography is now a premiere commercial photography studio located in California. Specializing in commercial portraiture, Zach’s work features many elite athletes and has appeared in magazine covers and in national print ads. Zach hopes to use his ‘edgy’ style of photography to help promote the sport of lacrosse within mainstream media. Titled ‘EXPOSURE’, these blog posts will showcase Zach’s recent work and how he is helping lacrosse to get more of what it needs…exposure.
