Cassese announces Lehigh men’s lacrosse incoming class of 2019

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the fall semester set to begin next week, Lehigh head men’s lacrosse coach Kevin Cassese has announced the addition of 12 incoming freshmen to the program. The class of 2019 features a wide breadth of backgrounds who come to Lehigh from across the United States and Canada.

The incoming class features student-athletes from every position and players from Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Delaware and New Hampshire, along with one from Calgary, Alberta in Canada.

Eddie Bouhall • D/LSM • Lynbrook, N.Y. • Arts and Sciences • Highlight Video
A highly-touted defenseman out of Lynbrook, Bouhall was one of 50 individuals named to the 2016 U.S. Men’s Under-19 Tryout Pool. The two-time team captain was also an Under Armour All-American, becoming Lehigh’s first-ever incomer to play in the Under Armour All-America Game. Bouhall was also a first team All-Metro Team honoree, member of the New York Newsday All-Long Island Boys Team and member of the American Family Insurance All-USA Lacrosse Team. He was the Nassau County Defenseman of the Year and the recipient of the James Metzger Leadership Award. Bouhall garnered Nassau County Defenseman of the Year honors in 2014, was an All-American in 2014 and All-County honoree in 2013. In the end, he averaged 75 groundballs and four goals over his decorated high school career. Bouhall was an All-County football player as a senior while also playing ice hockey and running one year of cross country.

Craig Chick • LSM/D • Edgewater, Md. • Business • Highlight Video
A standout for South River High School, Chick played three years of varsity lacrosse and two years of varsity basketball. Twice, Chick was named a first team All-County lacrosse player and earned second team All-County once. In his career, he was a State Champion, All-American and All-Met honoree. Chick was a C. Markland Kelly Award finalist and member of the Maryland Freestate Team. Also strong in the classroom, Chick was an AP Scholar, member of the National Honor Society and Honor Roll and Principal Honor Roll. He earned the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence and was named the Male Athlete of the Year for South River High School.

Michael Di Rienzo • D • Holbrook, N.Y. • Arts and Sciences • Highlight Video
Di Rienzo became part of his high school’s starting defense by the end of his freshman year at Sachem High School East. Team captain as a senior, Di Rienzo also played on several travel teams, one of which (the Jesters) who made it to the Under-15 National Semifinals. He also participated on the Brine U.S. National Lacrosse team. Di Rienzo’s team had the opportunity to play the Canadian National team for Under-19, and won. In the classroom, he was a member of the honor roll every quarter. Di Rienzo was active outside of athletics and academics as well, participating in the Junior Fire Fighters of Holbrook and donated his time to coach elementary school players of Hampton Bays. He was involved in the interactive volunteer club as well.

Zach Drake • M • Chalfont, Pa. • Arts and Engineering • Highlight Video
A four-year letterwinner at La Salle College High School, Drake was a senior captain and two-time first team All-PCL (Philadelphia Catholic League) honoree. Drake finished as a three-time PCL Champion, garnering the Travis Manion Leadership Award which was awarded by his coaches. He led his team in scoring as a senior, also earning All-EPCLA. Drake led his squad to the 2013 Pennsylvania State Championship and earned All-USA Pennsylvania Boys Lacrosse Team for PIAA in 2014-15. A member of the USA Under-19 Indoor Lacrosse Team, Drake also excelled in the classroom. He earned First Honors all four years for a GPA of 3.75 or higher, posting a final GPA of 3.98. Drake also received the 3D Art Award and a 500 dollar grant.

Mickey Fitzpatrick • A/M • Duxbury, Mass. • Arts and Sciences • Highlight Video
Fitzpatrick began his high school career by starting at attack for Duxbury High School and posting 30 goals and 15 assists. As a junior, he started at attack for Trinity-Pawling School, collecting 24 goals with 16 assists. He followed as a senior captain by posting 26 goals and 16 assists at attack and midfield, earning All-Founders League and Team Offensive MVP. Fitzpatrick was selected to the U.S. Under-19 World Indoor Development Team, competing in the 2015 World Championships in Ontario, Canada. He played club lacrosse with Laxachusetts and was selected to the All-Star teams at the Fab-Frosh Showcase, Baltimore Summer Kick-Off, Philly Showcase and King of the Hill. Fitzpatrick impressed in the classroom, achieving high honors and a spot on the headmaster’s list every term. A member of the National Honor Society, Fitzpatrick was awarded the faculty academic award in Spanish. He was a Trinity-Pawling School Student Proctor and Alumni Ambassador. Fitzpatrick also played varsity ice hockey and ran varsity cross country in high school.

Jonathan Klobus • G • Syosset, N.Y. • Computer Science and Business • Highlight Video
Klobus capped off his career in 2015 by leading Syosset High School to the Nassau County and Long Island Lacrosse Championships as the team’s starting goaltender. He earned All-Conference recognition as a senior, one year after Syosset advanced to the Nassau County Semifinals. Klobus was a multi-sport athlete who was the founder and captain of Syosset Rowing Club. He placed third in the 2015 Long Island Championship as part of the crew pair and was a three-year starting center for the football team. Syosset won the Nassau County and Long Island Football Championships in 2015 and Big Four Championship in 2014. Klobus was successful off the field as well, serving as a Student Class Treasurer of freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes.

Jackson Monnin • M • Charlotte, N.C. • Engineering • Highlight Video
Monnin was a four-year varsity standout in both lacrosse and football at Charlotte Latin, finishing as a four-time lacrosse state champion. Finishing with 43 goals, 21 assists and 65 groundballs as a senior, Monnin earned All-Conference recognition three times and All-State as a junior and senior. He was also a US Lacrosse All-American in 2014 and 2015, garnering South Charlotte News Herald first team recognition his final three seasons. Monnin received USA Today All-North Carolina Team in 2015, was also a North Carolina Great 38 All-Star as a senior and was Team Carolina Elite the previous two seasons (2013 and 2014). In football, Monnin was an All-Conference and All-State linebacker as a senior. Also a team captain in 2014, Monnin helped lead Charlotte Latin to two State Runner-Up finishes. In the classroom, Monnin was on the Headmaster’s List for the honor roll from 2012-15.

A 2014 and 2015 US Lacrosse All-American at Tower High School, Pettit garnered Delaware State Player of the Year as a senior. Pettit was a three-time first team All-State attackman and three-time All-Phillylacrosse.com Delaware first team member. He left Tower High School as the program’s all-time leader in goals, assists and points at 202 goals, 123 assists and 325 points, respectively. A team captain as a senior, Pettit was a 2014 Under Armour Underclass Team Philadelphia member. Pettit played for Dukes lacrosse club. He impressed in the classroom, tallying a 3.4 GPA in high school.

Out of Edmonton, Alberta, Rai enters Lehigh from Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut. Rai has both box (indoor) and field lacrosse in his background and was a four-year varsity lacrosse and hockey standout, and three-year varsity football player, at Westminster School. A lacrosse and hockey captain in 2014, Rai was named the team’s lacrosse MVP. Rai won the Brian T. Bruyette Award for most outstanding senior athlete and was a 2014 Leblond Scholar recipient. The Alberta native was a 2013 Western New England Division I All-Star in lacrosse. Rai impressed in the classroom as an AP Scholar with Honor in 2014, one season after earning AP Scholar recognition. Rai played box lacrosse with Whitby Warriors Junior A (OLA) in 2015 and Sherwood Park Titans Junior A (RMLL) in 2014.

Matt Rimol • D • Londonderry, N.H. • Business • Highlight Video
A four-year varsity player at Londonderry High School, Rimol was a three-time All-State honoree, including first team laurels as a senior. A senior lacrosse captain, Rimol was also a starting inside and outside linebacker in football, earning the Coaches Award as a senior. He was named a National Strength and Conditioning All-American in 2015 and impressed in the classroom. Rimol earned an academic letter and two academic scrolls for consecutive semesters on high schools. He was a New Hampshire Scholar and New Hampshire Scholar-Athlete as well.

Sam Shearin • M • Dunbarton, N.H. • Engineering • Highlight Video
A multi-sport athlete at Goffstown High School, Shearin played football all four years of high school. Winner of the football weight room award, Shearin was also a three-time All-State honoree in lacrosse and a USILA All-American as a senior. He won the lacrosse sportsmanship award, was the Goffstown High School Senior “Grizzly” Male Athlete Award winner and led his lacrosse team to the 2015 state championship. In the classroom, Shearin was a member of the National Honor Society as a member of the honor roll. He was also a Goffstown Outstanding Athletic Leader.

Lucas Spence • A • Springfield, Pa. • Engineering • Highlight Video
A standout at Springfield High School, Spence was a two-time All-American and three-time member of the All-Pennsylvania State team. He was a three-time first team All-Delaware County honoree and first team All-Central League recipient. The Central League MVP in 2015, Spence was All-Philly first team from 2014-15 and Philadelphia Inquirer first team honoree in 2015. He was a two-year team captain, totaling 294 career points on 162 goals and 132 assists. Spence won a District One Championship as a senior as well. He was a varsity football standout as a defensive back for three seasons, earning first team All-Central League and All-Delaware County in 2015.Strong in the classroom, Spence was a member of the National Honor Society, was a class officer and tallied a 4.0 GPA.
