Cornell Lacrosse Players Volunteer to Support Pediatric Cancer Awareness

ITHACA, N.Y. – Eight members of the Cornell women’s lacrosse team and eight members of the men’s lacrosse team volunteered at the first Black and Gold Gala to support Mira’s Movement on Saturday. Mira’s movement, a non-profit company, seeks to raise awareness of and help children suffering from cancer.

Lauren Halpern, Katie Kirk, Kelly Lang, Rachel Moody, Ali O’Neil, Caroline Salisbury, Shannon Tierney and Cat Thomas took part in the event, held at the John Joseph Inn and Elizabeth Restaurant in the neighboring town of Groton. The women were joined by seven members of the men’s lacrosse team: Chris Cook, JJ Gilbane, Ross Gillum, Mitch McMichael, Chris Langton, Rob Pannell and Max Van Bourgondien.

Together, they helped to greet and to escort the guests to the gala. The players met many prominent members of the Ithaca and Cornell community, including university president David J. Skorton and his wife, Robin Davisson, who are both very involved with Mira’s Movement.

As part of the auction at the gala, there were autographed jerseys from both the Big Red men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, as well as the chance to meet the players, tour the men’s locker room, and win a one-on-one training session with the women’s coaches and players.

The players enjoyed mingling with the guests and learning about their involvement with the organization. They also wish Mira’s Movement the best of luck in all future endeavors, and they hope to be able to support the organization again soon.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
