Boston, Ma – In 1976 the Philadelphia Eagles held an open tryout for an invitation to training camp. In 2012 CroART Lacrosse in partnership with the Boston Cannons will give players from all around the northeast the same chance only this time with three invitations to camp on the line.
The tryout will give an opportunity for players within the CroART Nation Lacrosse community as well as players throughout New England to be seen, a chance they may not otherwise get.Three players from the tryout will be invited to the 40 player camp that takes place over three weekends in April. CroART Lacrosse has become an official partner with Boston Cannons that will allow the organization to feed local players into the Cannon’s system. A new division sponsored by the Boston Cannons will be added to the 2012 CroART Summer League bringing the total divisions to 9. The division, will be called the eights division, and will feature the top 16 club teams in the state. Entry will be based upon level of play, prior year record and standings,
as well as commitment to the league. Division rules will follow traditional club rules but will introduce a few Major League Lacrosse rules.
“Through this tryout, the many talented players in our leagues and in the area will have a chance to showcase their abilities to the Cannons scouts,” said CroART Lacrosse Founder Tyrone Croom. “We hope a few of our players are recognized and given the opportunity to show what they have at Cannons Training Camp and maybe get a few rosters spots on our home town team.”
An opportunity to train for the try out event will be provided by CATZ Training. CATZ Training will be on-site at the tryout to conduct all of the conditioning and agility testing. They are providing a discount to CroART players at their facilities to better prepare prospective players for the challenges of professional lacrosse.
“Boston is known for its huge population of college graduates and, whether they grew up in the area or moved here after school, that includes a significant number of lacrosse players, many of whom played at the highest collegiate level,” said Cannons General Manager Kevin Barney. “This tryout will give us the chance to get a look at some of the talent out there that we might not have seen otherwise.
In addition to the summer sponsorship, the Cannons have committed to sponsoring CroART’s spring open and Power 30 Divisions. There will be 20 players handpicked from these divisions to represent CroART in the annual game in which the CroART Allstars face off against the Cannons as part of their training camp scrimmages. As part of the newly formed partnership CroART Lacrosse will receive sideline club tickets and group tickets to each of the Cannon’s home games this season.
“As our fan base continues to grow, CroART represents the key demographic of post-collegiate lacrosse fans in Boston, a group we hope to see more of next summer at Harvard Stadium,” said Barney. “This partnership will allow us to reach those fans and get them more involved with the Cannons in various ways, beginning with an invitation to try out for the team.”
With all the opportunities for a player within the CroART organization to be seen by the professional organization, the entire lacrosse community will be wondering who will be the Cannon’s Vince Papale?
