Delaware Valley College Adds Men's and Women's Lacrosse

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College is proud to announce that it will add five NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports in women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. All five will begin competition starting with the 2014-15 season.

“This decision reflects the continued commitment to athletics from the college,” incoming director of athletics Steve Cantrell said. “I believe that it not only strengthens the athletic department, but it strengthens the institution as a whole through academic success, student life and enrollment.”

The major expansion will increase the number of intercollegiate offerings at DelVal to 22 with 11 men’s sports (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and wrestling) and 11 women’s sports (basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and volleyball).

With 22 teams, DelVal will have the third-highest sponsorship total among the 18 institutions that comprise the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC).

“The conference is delighted that DelVal has added these sports and it extends their program dramatically,” conference executive director Ken Andrews said. “It’s an invaluable addition as it will help us continue to hold automatic qualifying bids to the NCAA Division III Championships and we are really grateful to DelVal for that.”

DelVal will look to hire full-time coaches in both men’s and women’s lacrosse this summer and they will immediately begin recruiting. Those two programs will also compete on the College’s new multi-purpose turf field which is currently being installed at the stadium thanks to a generous seven-figure donation for athletic renovations by 1980 graduate and current Board of Trustees member Robert A. Lipinski.
