Detroit Titans Add JD Hess For 2013

DETROIT — The University of Detroit Mercy men’s lacrosse team was able to secure another top recruit to join its already deep freshman class with the addition of All-American JD Hess (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm) for the upcoming season, announced head coach Matt Holtz.

“JD is an athletic and skilled player who has really come into his own this past year,” said Holtz. “We are excited to have him join the Titan lacrosse family.”

The 5-10, 160-pound attackman/midfielder totaled 88 career goals in high school, including a fantastic senior season with 50 goals and 36 assists as he guided Birmingham United to a regional championship and a state semifinals appearance. With those numbers, he would go on to earn All-American accolades by US Lacrosse, First Team All-State and First Team All-Area as well as All-Region and honorable mention All-Midwest.

He was a two-time team MVP and team captain, and was named Third Team All-State and honorable mention All-Midwest as a junior. Hess also lettered in football and hockey and was the team’s MVP, All-League, All-County and All-Metro wide receiver as a senior.

With Hess on board, the Titans now have four incoming All-Americans as Rockford’s Connor Flynn, Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Dylan Swanson and Hess earned that honor this year, while Jack Slomsky was an adidas All-American in 2010.

Hess is the 16th member of the 2013 class that includes; Paul Bitetti (Plainview, NY/Bethpage), Ryan Callaghan (Burlington, ON/Corpus Christi), Nick Demattia (Clarkston, MI/ Clarkston), Chris Donohue (Atlantic Beach NY/ Lawrence), Connor Flynn (Rockford, MI/Rockford), Brad Harris (Saline, MI/Saline), Andy Hebden (Farmington Hills, MI/Brother Rice), Nick Mellucci (Novi, MI/Northville), Chris Perry (Shelby Township, MI/Eisenhower), Jack Slomsky (Westerville, OH/ Columbus St Francis DeSales), Mike Spuller (Dexter, MI/Dexter), Dylan Swanson (Ann Arbor, MI/ Pioneer), Ryan Tarzia (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) and Shannen Wesley (Toledo, OH/ St. Francis de Sales) and Jordan Yono (Novi, MI/Detroit Catholic Central).
