Dream Come True for Southwestern University Lacrosse Team

Southwestern University is a small Division 3 school located in Georgetown, Texas. Their program is off the radar, but for a small team in Texas they are doing everything possible to get on the scene. We have pics of their 2012 gear (Camo shorts, sublimated pinnies with Camo numbers, custom STX assault gloves, cell d pads, Black/Yellow Cascade Pro7’s) along with a press release about a generous donation to the program.

Georgetown, Texas – Southwestern’s soccer and lacrosse teams will soon be embarking on a new era of competition: night games. Thanks to a generous donation from current parents, the Athletic Department has installed lights on the soccer/lacrosse competition field and will soon install lights on the nearby pedestrian walkway and parking lot.

Lights will allow the teams to practice and compete on the field later into the evening, reducing the amount of class time missed by student athletes. Night games will also improve the fan experience for students and community members, and elevate the competition environment for Pirate athletes.

“This addition will take the program to an even higher level as the night venue will be a significant boost to recruiting and to student and fan attendance,” said Men’s Soccer Coach Don Gregory. “It has been a dream for quite a while to play under the lights, and now ‘hitting the switch’ will be a reality.”

An additional gift from a former Southwestern athlete provided funds to run a fiber optic cable to the field. This will allow the University to broadcast the games live online.

The first night game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7, and can be viewed live online through www.collegetvticket.com. A brief dedication ceremony for the new lights is planned for 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 21, between the women’s and men’s soccer games as the teams take on SCAC opponent Hendrix College at 5 and 7 p.m. respectively.

Glada Munt, director of intercollegiate athletics, noted that the new lights will be used judiciously to stay in line with Southwestern’s energy conservation and green initiatives. In the past few years, Southwestern has added new scoreboards to the softball and soccer/lacrosse fields that, when combined with the new baseball scoreboard, still use less electricity than the former baseball scoreboard alone.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.

    So
proud of this program. 26 years ago, when Monty Curtis asked me the
fateful question, “Have you ever played Lacrosse?”, I could only dream
of what would be and the great people I met both then, along the way,
and every time I am around this program. Well done to everyone
associated with the program, and keep the trajectory ever upward.

Definitely not “off the radar”. Most improved team in D-III in 2011. Only team to have a double digit improvement in Power Ranking in all of D-III.
