DENVER – 102.3 ESPN will serve as the radio home for the Pioneer hockey and men’s lacrosse programs for 2012-13, the University of Denver and Front Range Sports Network announced today.

“We are extremely excited to continue our relationship with DU hockey and to begin our partnership with DU men’s lacrosse,” Front Range Sports Network General Manager Tom Manoogian said. “We feel privileged to bring these two quality programs to our listener base on 102.3 ESPN.”

All 35 regular-season hockey games as well as WCHA and NCAA postseason games will be carried live on 102.3 ESPN. Jay Stickney begins his 13th season calling the play-by-play action for the Pioneers.

“We are pleased to continue our radio partnership with 102.3 ESPN,” two-time National Coach of the Year George Gwozdecky said. “For the third consecutive year, all of our regular-season and postseason games will be broadcast on one sports radio station, which our loyal fans certainly appreciate. We have another challenging schedule, highlighted by North Dakota, Colorado College, Boston University and Wisconsin.”

The DU men’s lacrosse program makes its radio debut, as eight home games will be broadcast live from Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Mitch Hyder, the long-time voice of the Pioneers, will call the play-by-play action. Denver is one of a few men’s lacrosse programs, including Johns Hopkins and Maryland, to be carried on an ESPN radio affiliate.

“As the Denver Pioneers continue to make our presence known throughout the lacrosse world, we are thrilled to announce that all of our home games will be on 102.3 ESPN,” DU head coach Bill Tierney said. “Our media exposure is most important to us as our fan base grows. So, whether we are on national television, 102.3 ESPN or Pioneer Vision, the Pioneer Lacrosse Nation will be able to follow us in action. Our 2013 season will be the most challenging one we have faced thus far, and our home schedule has some ‘can’t miss’ games.”

102.3 ESPN is Denver’s Sports Station, anchored by the No. 1 sports morning show in Denver, Mike & Mike in the Morning. 102.3 ESPN enters its third year as the home of DU Hockey and now the home of DU Lacrosse. 102.3 ESPN also continues with The George Gwozdecky Show along with The Bill Tierney Show beginning in February. With ESPN and two of the most prolific college sports teams in the country, this makes for a winning combination.
