Early Lacrosse Recruiting is Shunned by Coaches Association

The IMLCA has issued a statement to its membership indicating that the Association does not support recruiting events for boys who have not yet entered the ninth grade.

“College coaches are great teachers of the game. We should be involved in helping develop both players and coaches,” said Richie Meade, president of the IMLCA and head coach at Furman University. “Programs that teach are very valuable in advancing our sport in a healthy way. We all agree recruting young men when they have not yet entered high school is not the direction in which lacrosse should move.”

“The IMLCA does not support the practice of recruting boys this age. They should be learning the game and the proper way in which to compete with honor and integrity.”

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
