Easton Raptor Helmet — Take Two

Sunday we introduced you to the new Raptor helmet from Easton. Your responses to the new helmet were pretty much unanimous:

“won’t use it for lacrosse…will use it for a sick Master Chief costume”

“thats a joke right….that helmet is uglier that the warrior ones. i would rather wear a riddell than that piece. lets me real and just let cascade make helmets”

“that helmet would be good..for someone who wants no tilt and likes to second bar it…”

“ill stick with my pro 7”

“the face mask looks really dumb”

“speechless! I can’t even think of anything to say! I was so looking forward to this helmet and just puked in my mouth! I was so pro Riddell looks like Cascade got me back!!!!”

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.

There’s a reason Easton recalled these, they realized they made a piece of crap. Do everyone a favor, and get yourself a nice Pro7, CPX-R, CPV, hell even a TII would be better than this crap. Easton needs to stick to baseball

that girl and the helmet look dumb. i agree it is better than the cpxr but if you pick this over a pro7 youre insane. pro7 will always be THE lacrosse helmet, idk why others even try to compete.

the flatter face mask looks like it would really be useful for seeing the ball as a goalie

only thing i suggest is redoing the cage make it less bulky and more low profile. and instead of having the vertical bar tucked underneath the visor, attach it to the tip like the pro7

the two side bars should also be thinner instead of almost protruding out of the mask

for all of you guys that were at the Big city classic, did you bother talkin to the rep? when I discussed how alo of people were commenting on the facemask coming out far, # 1 he said that the face mask is not sticking out further, they cut the visor back to open up the sight lines. and key point #2 – they are going to change the mask a bit before the product is available to the public in October.

This is the lightest helmet I have tried on and the fitment system amde it real comfortable. I have a Pro 7 and a CRX R and would wear this (and keep the other 2) any day..

I think purchasing this helmet will depend on Price and customization options..

This is gonna be like the CPX-R, everybody is going to hate on it then when it’s released people are going to absolutely crazy for it. I switched from the PRO 7 to the CPX-R and would never go back. But i still don’t know….

You’re judging it by looking at it on some random girl, there’s pics of St Andrew’s wearing it that I linked at the bottom. Not only that, you probably haven’t seen it in person, nor are there pics of custom colors yet. After all, it’s only a prototype design. There’s no doubt that this can be revolutionary if we can give it a chance. Here’s a link to St. Andrews wearing it on Sunday:

Nobody seems to like this helmet. I don’t think most of the people that has commenter on this helmet has ever used it. I haven’t used it yet but I don’t think its fair to completely hate the helmet just because you’ve seen a couple pictures and decided you didn’t like the way it looked. For the record, I don’t mind the way the helmet looks.

always have and always will rep CNY by wearing cascade. easton is a baseball brand and doesnt deserve to be seen anywhere near a lax field

  31. CharlieBROWN on April 5, 2011 at 7:24 pm

I have seen this helmet in person (it DOES look better in person imo) and did try it on – my verdict – it’s effing awesome! You can barely feel it on your head and it is SOOOOO comfortable. So comfortable in fact i might even consider sleeping in it.

I did ask questions about how protective this thing was and one of the Easton girls there gave me a pretty good lecture in physics and impact tests. She mentioned something about one piece construction and how it improves absorption of the impact. Let me tell you – I am very impressed… not only because a pretty girl can speak physics but also that my head can be safe and comfy at the same time…

I must say, that it doesn’t look that bad. I agree with some of the posts below, that the technical facts are limited or very poorly explained. If your helmet is the best against concussions, why not explain. If it’s the lightest w/out sacrificing protection, why not explain. If the sightlines are optimized, how does it work. Why not explain. And please Easton, add the product on your website.

Showing the helmet here with a female woman wearing it is, to say the least, quite interesting move. If I’m trying to figure what I would be thinking of buying later in the year, I’d like to see it presented in a video rather.

Your helmet might be excellent, but the way you’ve introduced it to us is quite poor.

I’m still on the Raptors side, just make me understand just why and how it’s the most revolutionary helmet ever as you like to claim.

I must say, that it doesn’t look that bad. I agree with some of the posts below, that the technical facts are limited or very poorly explained. i think it looks sick, just have to wait to see how you can customize it to be sure

  61. Jdowiak23 on April 5, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Agreed the design needs a lot of improvements especially the facemask.
    HOWEVER
I tried it on at the big city classic and it was BY FAR the lightest helmet on the market, it was like nothing was on my head. Chin strap was awesome (usually goes unnoticed) and it was very comfortable

  62. Hawt on April 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm

Short and stubby looking. It just looks compressed. Like they said, above, let Cascade stick to making helmets. I’ve used Cascade, Brine and Warrior on different teams and whenever it comes down to getting my own helmet I always go back to Cascade.

  63. Tipsy_mcdrinksalot on April 5, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Ya it’s pretty ugly from what I can see, however everything i’ve heard from people who have tried it on has been nothing but positive for weight, comfort and ability to tilt. I’d really like a chnace to get a hold of it myself and see if it actually lives up to those comments

  64. Chaskins on April 5, 2011 at 4:46 pm

I think people will change their mind if they see it with an actual school layout on it. I’m not sure if it is a Cascade beater, but I don’t think it’s as bad as people think.

The helmet is still ugly even with a decent looking chick wearing it. Seriously easton take this piece of garbage of the market.

ewwwwww… easton needs to go back to the drawing board.. CASCADE FTW!!

Still ugly, still not going to make me consider for one second about getting a helmet other than a cascade.

  74. Buddy on April 5, 2011 at 3:59 pm

The mask is definitely the problem. And the visor could be rounded – it looks like a beak.

  75. Shaw on April 5, 2011 at 3:55 pm

I would not only like to see it in person, but see it in some other colors. I think it has potential if the paint job looked a little more fluid.

I dunno, I just feel like it’s all one big disappointment. The teaser pics and hype thing works in lacrosse, but only to an extent. I feel like if they had given the helmet more coverage on LPG or other sites, taking the time to explain each part of the helmet, it would’ve been received better. Instead, they just dropped it on us–nothing we could do except for react to the looks of the helmet at that point.

  79. Stephen K. on April 5, 2011 at 3:40 pm

everyone else says it looks horrible, the only thing i dont like is the facemask because it seems like you have a limited space to look through. other than that the design is pretty sweet, however they need to go back to the drawing board on the facemask. This isn’t the one thats going to even challenge cascade, but it shows that easton has some potential and they arent just throwing out crap.

Well, you def have a very bad taste. I wonder what you girlfriend looks like.

Riddell? Man, that thing looked like it was made for power rangers costumes circa 1991… Bubbly and heavy as hell.

Pro7? cascade has been releasing the same damn thing for the last 5 yrs. The design has not evolved at all! Good thing Easton is actually trying to bring fresh designs into lax.

I will def get the lid! The coolest looking helmet out there!

She’s a cutie for sure…and I do not mean the helmet. A hot babe will not cure the eyesore that is the face-mask, and the helmet looks like its got nothing but the hard styrofoam in it with some velcro attached padding, I would say put a little more time into the design, the game isn’t going anywhere, don’t try to beat cascade, because its not going to happen with this one.

    • Laxer623 on April 6, 2011 at 12:48 am

nah dude i tried it on at big city and i thought it was styrofoam but its this crazy honey comb stuff its pretty sick

      • Rob R. on April 6, 2011 at 2:47 pm

If it makes the dome safer, then sweet deal. they say anything about how it stands up to a hard hit? For me the face-mask kills it though, why send players onto the field with jacked up sight lines? That and I want to know how protective it is, during one of the games last week the announcers were talking about how lax helmets on the whole are not really designed for monster hits, that being said, its cool that its light and the shell design is pretty innovative, but Easton needs to inform their potential customers better.
