EcoLax: Saving The Planet One Greaser At A Time

Entrepreneurs, Mike and Matt Kim from Washington, DC, wanted to work this Summer, but also wanted to do something lacrosse related at the same time. The Kim brothers founded EcoLax. Project EcoLax is a recycling program aimed to refurbish used lacrosse balls while simultaneously saving the planet. With the exploding popularity of lacrosse, laxers are going through tons of balls every year. Many of these balls are used for a while and then thrown away when they become slick i.e. “Greasers”. The mission of EcoLax is to refurbish your unwanted Greasers and give them a new life. The Kim brothers also profess throwing away one lacrosse ball is like trashing 11 empty bottles or dumping 25 plastic bags. View a video demo below.

EcoLax will be refurbishing balls at a number of events this Summer. The Kim brothers plan to use the proceeds to recoup their investment and then fund their mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The Kim brothers will be bringing lacrosse equipment to teach underprivileged childern the sport of lacrosse. Order an EcoLax Recycling Kit today by clicking here.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.

Fantastic Idea: Check these new low cost options for the DIYer. I use my ReLAX refurbisher at least once per month. The 5 gallon version is a beast but the 2 gallon is easier to store and more than meets the needs of the average player. It takes off less than 1/128th of an inch each time you use it. You refurbish a single ball dozens of times before the are out of specification. SAVE THE WORLD 1 Player at a time.

ignore “smart man” I have cleaned greasy balls with dove, they look nothing like that. And you can easily tell the high quality of the refurbished balls. Greasy balls get shinier the greasier they get. Therefore the mat white shows that the ball is as good as new. “smart man” can go troll somewhere else. I think what you guys are doing is fantastic, keep it up!

      Smart MAN,

We do not use Dawn soap and the noise is actually from the machine.  Based on your comments we find it hard to believe that you actually came to one of our events.  We have received positive comments from Kyle Harrison, Sam Bradman, the Stanwick Family and many others.  Our latest event was the Baltimore Summer Kickoff, please check out this testimonial.  That day we refurbished an entire bucket of balls for Jake.

    no one buy this,
there just using dawn dish soap, takes grease off everything (like the ducks in the commercials)
and it just makes them look good but they are still not grippy
    waste of money

I hope you’re kidding. This is what bugs me so much about mission trips. misplaced intentions. Just help the people live a better life by giving them essentials and a solid foundation for the future. Lacrosse is about as far away from essential as I could ever think of. You can’t eat a bible and you can’t eat lacrosse equipment.

          Hi Cadlax,

I’d like to make this explicitly clear to you.  We are going to spread the gospel and give the people a chance at eternal life.  That’s better than food and shelter in this life.  That’s what we believe.  We understand that other people have other views and we respect that.  By the way the missions trip is with our church.  We are one of several teams including a medical team, a construction team and a micro-financing team.  We also attend to the poor’s immediate needs like hunger.  Last year we packed and brought with us about 100,000 meals for hungry children.  So you can see, lacrosse is going to be just a small part of what we do in the DR.

Obviously you have never taken an economics class or have some kind of common sense that the time, labor, and capital you spend on lacrosse could be used towards more useful things to actually alleviate suffering. Which you know, is kind of what I think god/jesus/good-person would have done. I find it extremely cruel that you would rather try to convert people than trying to help them in tangible ways.
