Minneapolis, MN — August 5, 2014 — Epoch Lacrosse, the leaders in carbon composite lacrosse technology, today raised the bar in lacrosse shaft design with the introduction of its MMXV (2015) Gen.5 Dragonfly shafts with Reload Technology.  The Gen.5 Dragonfly shafts will also be available in multiple shapes and flex profiles, ranging from a medium flex (iQ5) to a soft flex (iQ9).

“Our limited roll out of the Gen.5 technology last season was an overwhelming success,” said Ryan Hurley, National Sales Representative at Epoch Lacrosse.  “It didn’t take players very long to realize that the exclusive technology that goes into all of our products are really generations ahead.”

Epoch’s Reload Technology is an exclusive design feature that goes far beyond conventional carbon fiber lacrosse shafts with flex.  Epoch’s shafts are designed specifically to improve the recovery of the shaft back to its original position while taking a shot.  Epoch’s Reload Technology also helps to improve a players shot accuracy, speed and release point.

How does Epoch do it?  Epoch’s Reload technology is accomplished by using hi-modulus and low F.A.W. (fiber areal weight) carbon fiber utilizing Epoch’s exclusive Advanced Carbon Layering (ACL) w/Axis Technology.  What does that mean? When you pass or shoot, a load (or force) is introduced to the shaft.  By using Hi-modulus and low F.A.W. fibers Epoch can position the fibers being stretched in the front of the shaft and the fibers being compressed on the back to help accelerate the recoil of the fibers to a natural position following a shot.

Using only unidirectional, low F.A.W. (fiber areal weight) and high-modulus fiber, Epoch strategically places layers of carbon fiber in multiple axes along the full length of the shaft. This results in exceptional design consistency, material integrity and preserves 100 percent of the carbon fiber properties.

The carbon fiber material in Epoch’s shafts undergo a chemical surface treatment process to improve the mechanical “locking,” or compatibility between the layers of carbon fiber, resulting in better load (energy) transfer and increased durability.

The new for 2015 Gen.5 Dragonfly shafts also feature Epoch’s Slip/Grip coating for superior tactile feel and proper hand positioning.  This clear coat incorporates tiny silicone balls that allow a player’s hands to easily glide (slip) up and down the shaft to effortlessly find the ideal hand position for catching, cradling, throwing and shooting.

“The amount of research and development time that goes into our products is unparalleled,” said Miceli.  “Our goal is and will always be to set a new benchmark for the industry every time we launch a new product.”

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
