Fitzpatrick and Scott Named Lehigh Women’s Lacrosse Captains

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head women’s lacrosse coach Jill Redfern has announced that senior Alexandra Fitzpatrick and junior Kelly Scott have been selected as 2014 team captains. An All-Patriot League performer, Fitzpatrick leads the Mountain Hawks in goal while Scott has emerged as a force on defense.

The duo looks to lead a young, but also experienced squad that features nine freshmen and seven sophomores. The rising sophomores gained tremendous experience in their rookie campaigns, led by Megan Paytas and Kendall Garden who finished third and fourth on the team in scoring a season ago with 22 and 16 points, respectively.

Fitzpatrick has enjoyed a strong career in the Brown and White, earning First Team All-League honors as a freshman. She posted an 8.66 GAA and .506 save percentage, which was good for third best in the nation. Fitzpatrick helped lead the Mountain Hawks to the Patriot League Semifinals. She suffered an injury early her sophomore season, but came back to start all 16 games last year.

Fitzpatrick has been active off the field with COACH (Community Outreach By Athletes Who Care About Helping) and is a member of Student-Athlete Executive Council. She has been strong in the classroom as well, making the Dean’s List last spring while earning a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team.

Scott has emerged on the back line, leading the team with 18 caused turnovers while standing second with 23 groundballs and adding 12 draw controls. She started all 16 games and scored her first-career goal. As a freshman, Scott started all 16 games, posting 13 groundballs, 13 draw controls and four caused turnovers. Scott has impressed in the classroom, making the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every year while cracking the Dean’s List on multiple occasions as well.

“Both of these young women are highly invested in our program,” said Redfern. “They are trusted by the coaching staff and by their teammates to represent our team values. They are tough competitors, ambitious student-athletes and team-first players.”
