Furman Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2014 Schedule

Greenville, S.C. – Defending NCAA Champion Duke and 2013 NCAA Championship participants Lehigh and North Carolina highlight Furman’s inaugural men’s lacrosse 2014 schedule, Furman head coach Richie Meade announced today.

In its first full season as a varsity sport, Furman men’s lacrosse will host seven home games, including an exhibition, and play seven games on the road. The Paladins, who are a member of the Atlantic Sun conference for lacrosse, will play five conference matches to close out the 2014 season.

“This schedule challenges us to play top-tier Division I programs,” Coach Meade said. “In order to be an elite program you have to play an elite schedule. We are very excited about the schedule and being able to play in the Atlantic Sun conference. We hope that by playing storied programs right here at Furman, we will continue to lead the effort in growing the game of lacrosse in South Carolina and the south at large.”

The Paladins will face two Patriot League teams, two ACC teams, three ECAC teams and one Big East team in 2014. Lehigh and Army have combined for 12 Patriot League titles and eight national championships, while Duke and North Carolina have combined for 19 ACC titles and six national championships.

Furman will open the season with a home exhibition contest against Limestone on January 23, before hosting the 2013 Patriot League champion Lehigh (Feb. 1) and 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference champion North Carolina (Feb. 9). The Paladins will then travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to face the United States Air Force Academy (Feb. 15), before traveling to Washington, D.C. to take on the United States Military Academy (Feb. 22).

Furman will then travel to Louisville, Ky., to face future Atlantic Sun member Bellarmine on March 1. The Paladins then return home and play host to Michigan (Mar. 8) before again hitting the road to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown (Mar. 11). In the final non-conference game of the year, Furman will travel to Durham, N.C. to face 2013 national champion Duke.

The Paladins open A-Sun play with two home games, as the team plays host to High Point (Mar. 29) and Richmond (Apr. 5). Furman will hit the road for two final away games, as they travel to VMI (Apr. 12) and Mercer (Apr. 19). The Paladins will host Jacksonville (Apr. 26) in the final regular-season game of the year.

The Atlantic Sun Tournament will be held May 1-3 and will be hosted by the regular season champion.
