OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson men’s lacrosse freshman Stephen Banick (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) scored seven points with two goals and five assists as the seventh-ranked Mustangs scored seven second-half goals en route to an 11-5 victory over No. 17 Haverford Saturday night in the first game at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (1-0) held a slim 2-1 lead after the first quarter before Banick accounted for both of the team’s second-quarter goals just 45 seconds apart as it took a 4-1 halftime lead.

Banick picked up an assist on the first goal of the season from junior Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier) at 13:38 before netting his first goal of the season at 12:53 off a pass from sophomore Chris Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside).

After Zach Cohen scored to start the second half and pull the Fords (0-1) within two, the Mustangs scored seven of the game’s final 10 goals, five of which came in a decisive third quarter as they took a 9-4 lead.

Banick had a hand in four of Stevenson’s seven second-half goals with one goal and three assists.

The Mustangs outshot Haverford 48-30, including 29-18 in the second half. They also totaled 42 ground balls, forced 29 turnovers and held the Fords to just 1-of-13 on extra-man opportunities.
