Game photos: St. Stephens – Georgetown Prep

This season, the Georgetown Prep (9-2, 1-0) lacrosse team has been like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.

It’s been a roller-coaster ride early this season for the Little Hoyas so it was only fitting their first league contest would be a seesaw game. After giving up a three-goal fourth quarter lead, Prep bounced back to down previously undefeated St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes (9-1, 0-1) in triple overtime on Tuesday.

On a scorching hot day in Alexandria, VA, senior midfielder Fern Murias was the hero, taking a pass from senior defenseman Alex Blonsky in transition, sprinting and weaving past the defense and putting the game winner behind Saints’ netminder senior Ben Levy. Senior Robert Posniewski, Prep’s defensive leader, scored the first goal of his career in the match and helped keep the St. Stephen’s offense in check.

Junior attacker Cory Dobyns thinks the team is starting to hit on all cylinders. “We’re passing well, we’re running the offense, our defense is amazing led by Pos [Posniewski], Taylor, Morgan, our goalie Ford is really good,” he said after the win.

Peter Milley stood out for the Saints with a hat trick including the game tying goal in the fourth quarter where he leaped up to catch a pass and threw it in the back of the net.

Prep fans may have stormed the field if the team would’ve lost as many were infuriated by the officiating. On St. Stephen’s second goal, head coach Kevin Giblin was screaming that there were 11 men on the field. From the looks of it, he may have had a valid point.

Much more relaxed after the game was over and his team came had proved victorious, Giblin praised the effort of both teams and compared the game to the NCAA basketball championship the night before.

“Good effort by both teams. It’s tough to see somebody lose a game where the kids leave it all on the field but it’s gonna happen,” he said.
