Georgetown Men’s Lacrosse Releases 2013 Schedule

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men’s lacrosse Head Coach Kevin Warne has announced the team’s 14-game schedule for the 2013 season, his first on the Hilltop. The Hoyas open the season on Saturday, February 16 when the Hoyas host Lafayette College at Multi-Sport Field with a noon face-off scheduled. The opener will be one of seven home games scheduled for the season.

The Hoyas will play eight non-conference games, including reigning National Champion Loyola (Md.) and Final Four team Duke (March 23). They also host Navy, after a one-year break in the rivalry and play a pair of Ivy League opponents in Dartmouth (March 2) and Harvard (March 9). The Hoyas will also play Mount St. Mary’s (March 12) and Marquette (March 29) in non-conference play.

“We expect our non-conference schedule to be a challenging one and push us to improve leading into BIG EAST play,” Warne said. “Everyone is looking forward to getting this season underway and we are excited to show the home fans and the rest of the country what Georgetown lacrosse is all about.”

After the Hoyas opener with the Leopards, the Blue & Gray host Navy the following weekend on Saturday, February 23, renewing the Scott Boyle Memorial Cup game. The program makes its first trip to the Lone Star State when it takes on Dartmouth for the Patriot Cup at Gerald Ford Stadium on the campus of Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, Texas.

“I think playing in the Patriot Cup is great for the Georgetown lacrosse program. It’s an opportunity for our guys to experience a different atmosphere. It also gives us a chance to help grow the sport away from the east coast into a place like Texas.”

GU stays in the Ivy League, when they travel to Boston, Mass. to play Harvard, before playing closer to home when they square off against Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday, March 12.

After three games on the road, the Hoyas open its BIG EAST schedule when they host Providence on Saturday, March 16 before a mid-week game against defending National Champion Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday, March 20. GU takes a one-game road trip to Durham, N.C. to play Duke on Saturday, March 23.

Georgetown hosts Marquette, in the Golden Eagles first season of lacrosse on Friday, March 29, before five BIG EAST Conference games to close the season. The Hoyas host Villanova on Wednesday, April 3 and Syracuse on Saturday, April 20, with the game against the Orange serving as Senior Day.
The Hoyas will travel to St. John’s on Saturday, April 6 and Notre Dame on Sunday, April 14, before concluding the regular season at Rutgers on Saturday, April 27.

The 2013 BIG EAST Tournament is scheduled to take place from Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4 at Villanova University.
