Each week Lacrosse Playground will be featuring a different lacrosse athlete as part of our “Grip ‘N Rip” series, where we’ll find out what the best use to fine tune their game. This week we are featuring the highly recruited Ben Seligmann from Delbarton.

What head do you use?
For the past 3 years I’ve been playing with a clutch but as of this summer I decided to switch to the franchise. I think it may be my new head.

What handle do you use?
I play with a warrior krypto pro. I’ve used this shaft since I was in 6th grade.

Where does your pocket sit/what type of pocket to you prefer?
I like to go with the classic hard mesh and sometimes the occasional duramesh.

Who is your stick doctor? Do you string it yourself or have a go-to-teammate/friend?
I have always strung my sticks, I have it pretty much down to a science. I string sticks for my brothers and other kids on my team as well.

What kind of mesh do you use (Hard, soft, traditional/leathers, marc , etc.)? Why?

I normally go with regular hard mesh and I try to break it in otherwise I use Duramesh. I like mesh because it normally keeps its shape and doesn’t really bag out. It’s also easy to string.

What is your preferred glove?
I play with all white Mikey Powell gloves. I got them last year.

How much whip does your stick have?
Theres a lot of whip in my stick because my sticks all have really small pockets and thats the only way the ball stays in my stick.

Anything unique you do to your head or shaft (pocket up-keep, tape jobs, alterations, etc.)?
Since I started playing I have always had a specific way of taping my stick and it has stuck with me throughout high school. I like to put a criss-cross pattern at the bottom of my shaft.

How long do you keep a stick before you get a new one?
It really depends on how easily they break. I was going through about 2 or 3 clutches a year.

What’s most important to you in a stick/what makes a good stick?
I like having a stick that is the lightest possible because it makes it easy to control and you can really feel the ball when it is in your stick.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
