This week we are featuring Eastern Regional High School junior Attackman Mike Jevic from Voorhees, NJ.

Mike is a 6’2″ 205 lb Junior attackman who also plays football and basketball for Eastern. He finished last season with 42 points (25g, 17a) as a Sophomore and he is one of the top points scorers in New Jersey this season. “He’s been putting himself in a position to score as well as feed his teammates… He’s become a well-rounded player” said Head Coach Steve Picot. Mike has a fast shot that can stretch out defenses as well as quick hands that give him the ability to finish on the crease. This summer he will be playing for the South Jersey Shamrocks Orange coached by former Rutgers MVP Mike Yarusso. He has been selected to play at Top 205 at the University of Maryland.

What head do you use?
I use a black STX Proton Power because it has the right pinch for me and the way it is shaped helps me pick up groundballs better.

What handle do you use?
I use a silver STX Axe because it does not have a ton of grip but enough so that I can get a great handle on it. Also, it is durable so through checks it doesn’t get that dented and it does not break.

Where does your pocket sit/what type of pocket to you prefer?
My pocket sits low because as an attackman I carry the ball and need good hold on my stick. The low pocket also helps me when I shoot because it releases when I want it to.

Who is your stick doctor? Do you string it yourself or have a go-to-teammate/friend?
Two teammate, Dean Grishoff and Nick Rubino, and a friend from Maryland C.J. Croxton who strings for Warrior.

What kind of mesh do you use? Why?
I prefer hard mesh because it is easy for me to adjust and can take any kind of weather. It does the job and I don’t have to worry about it being messed up.

What is your preferred glove?
My preferred glove is the Reebok 9k because they are extremely comfortable and help me get a good handle on my stick. They are also protective so as an attackman I can deal with hard checks while wearing them.

How much whip does your stick have?
My stick has a decent amount of whip. I tend to shoot side arm/underhand sometimes. It gives me enough whip to get a nice hard shot and go where I want it to go.

Anything unique you do to your head or shaft (pocket up-keep, tape jobs, alterations, etc.)?
I tape my butt end and a little higher. Also, I put a little bit of tape at the top of my head for catching and some towards the bottom for shooting and it helps me know where my hands have to be to shoot.

How long do you keep a stick before you get a new one?
I keep a stick until it breaks because I get so used to it that I don’t want to change it. I like being comfortable with my stick and if I change it too much then I lose that comfort.

What’s most important to you in a stick/what makes a good stick?
I like having a decently pinched head and a lot of hold so I can protect the ball in my stick. Also, the shaft should be durable yet light so I can shoot faster.

Jersey Preference: Clean and classic or bold and wild? Why?
I prefer bold and wild because looking good in a game helps you play better in my opinion. I like having crazy colors so it helps me stand out. Check out the South Jersey Shamrocks uniform this summer. They are nice!

Favorite brand/type of cleats?
My favorite brand of cleats would be Nike. I like Nikes because they are always comfortable and you can get them mid ankle to help with ankle support.

What kicks do you wear off the field?
I wear either Nikes or Jordans off the field because they are comfortable and look good and that’s what matters in a shoe.
