Grip ‘N Rip: Salisbury Middie Tony Mendes

Lacrosse Playground, every once in awhile, features a different lacrosse athlete as part of our “Grip ‘N Rip” series, where we’ll find out what the best use to fine tune their game. Today we feature Salisbury midfielder Tony Mendes.

Does Salisbury have any new equipment this year?
We have Brine King 3 gloves and the new Trojan Warrior helmets (TII).

What head do you play with?
I use a Warrior Evo X6 on a Warrior Diamond shaft.

How do you like your pocket strung?
I like to have a high pocket with the ball sitting right on top of the first U. I don’t make the top too tight so the ball nips off the plastic. I like the sidewalls pulled down tight at the top and then skip some holes on the mesh to get the pocket where I need.

Do you have back-ups?
I try to make sure to have back ups that are exactly alike since my sticks seem to always break.

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
