Hamilton activates No. 5 Draft Pick Josh Hawkins


BOSTON (Tues., May 22, 2013) – Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced today that it has received the contract for No. 5 overall draft pick Josh Hawkins who has been activated by the Hamilton Nationals in advance of their game against the Ohio Machine this Thursday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Hawkins joins Loyola teammate Reid Acton and Johns Hopkins standout Tucker Durkin who had been activated last week and appeared in the 16-15 win over the Charlotte Hounds last Friday, May 17.

Hawkins finished his career at Loyola with 172 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers in 49 games. In 2012, he helped lead the Greyhounds to their first NCAA Lacrosse National Championship, and was named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American. He amassed 26 goals and 9 assists over his four year career.

Also a standout at Loyola, Acton made his MLL debut on May 17 against Charlotte. During his college career, he appeared in 53 games, scooping up 85 ground balls and causing 53 turnovers. In 2013, he was named a Second Team All-ECAC performer. He was also named to the USILA Honorable Mention All-American team in 2012 after helping Loyola to the first NCAA Lacrosse National Championship in program history.

Durkin also made his professional debut in the win over Charlotte last Friday, picking up three ground balls. He started all 59 games he appeared in over his four-year career at Johns Hopkins, picking up 127 ground balls and causing 34 turnovers. In 2012, he was named a First Team All-American by USILA and won the William C. Schmeisser award for the top defender in the country.

Fans can catch these three outstanding players in action this Thursday, May 23, as the Hamilton Nationals take on the Ohio Machine at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
