Hampton University

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Hopefully by now, you have heard the great news. But if you have not…

HAMPTON UNIVERSITY is officially adding men’s lacrosse as an NCAA Div. 1 program beginning play in 2016!

This is the first and only HBCU to add men’s lacrosse as a varsity program since Morgan State dropped their program in 1981. This is a huge moment for the school, for the men and women that were involved in this coming together since the club team first began a few years back, and for the sport itself.

Coach Lloyd Carter, who was a member of the Morgan State program was one of the founding members of the club program at Hampton, has been given the green light to continue to lead this program as they embark in this historic journey. He has always maintained his involvement with the sport, and has been instrumental in providing many young men and women the opportunity to experience and benefit from lacrosse as so many of us have. So a big congratulations goes out to him for all of the efforts that have led to this point!

Lacrosse Playground

In 2009, Adam O’Neill, Harry Alford and Thomas Alford launched Lacrosse Playground as the preeminent site for lacrosse gearheads. For years Lacrosse Playground provided lacrosse fans with tutorials and tips on how to string a lacrosse head, up-close looks at the gear the top players used and sneak peeks at equipment and uniforms before they were released. More than 10 years and millions of visits later, Lacrosse Playground has relaunched with a focus on storytelling. Our mission is to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest lacrosse news, share insights into the sports betting and fantasy lacrosse world and showcase the lifestyles and personalities of the sport of lacrosse through articles, videos and podcasts.
