Harvard Women’s Lacrosse Adds Eight Newcomers for 2012-13

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women’s lacrosse team has added eight members from the class of 2016 for the upcoming season.

Lisa Miller, the head coach for Crimson women’s lacrosse, has recruited players from five different states. The incoming freshman comprise of two attackers, three midfielders, one midfielder/attacker, one midfielder/defense and one defender.

Miller returns 21 of 28 players from last season’s team that went 9-7 and 5-2 in the Ivy League. The rookies hope to continue the success of last year’s team that made it to the semifinals at the Ivy League Tournament.

Meghan Bauer, Midfielder/5’10/Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School
Played four years of varsity lacrosse at The Blake School … Captain of the lacrosse team in 2012 … Led team to four straight section titles and three consecutive state championships from 2010-12 … Helped the lacrosse team to a runner-up finish in the state championship in 2009 … An All-American selection in 2012 … Named first team all-state from 2010-12 … Also named team MVP and to the Wells Fargo all-tournament team from 2010-12 … Selected for the Under Armour Midwest Team in 2010 and 2011 … Chosen a Kare 11 Athlete of the Week in 2011 and 2012 … A Star Tribune Athlete of the Week from 2010-12 … Also played varsity soccer at Blake … Captain of the soccer team in 2012 … Led the soccer team to the state championship in 2011 as well as a third-place finish in 2010 and second in 2009 … Helped the soccer team take four straight conference championships and three consecutive section championships from 2009-11 … Named all-conference for soccer in 2010 … A National Merit Scholar … Earned AP Scholar with Distinction … Received the John R. Hartmann Award for Athletic Excellence … Also enjoys piano, running, rock climbing, and water sports.

Carolyn Bruckmann, Attack/5’6/Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School
A four-year letterwinner for lacrosse at Stevenson … Captain of the lacrosse team in 2011 and 2012 … Helped the girl’s lacrosse team win its division at Western States Tournament in 2010 … Led the lacrosse team in scoring in her junior and senior years … Selected as team MVP in 2012 … Won the Stevenson School Sportsmanship Award in 2012 … Also a member of the varsity cross country team for three years at Stevenson … Captain of the cross country team in 2011 and 2012 … Helped Stevenson cross country win the Monterey Trail Athletic League in 2010 … Elected team MVP in 2010 and 2012 … Named Monterey County all-League team 2010-12 … Qualified for Central Coast sectionals from 2010-12 … Received High Academic Honors all four years of high school … Graduated valedictorian … National Merit Commended Scholar … An AP Scholar with distinction … Inducted to Cum laude Society in 2011 … Recipient of Stevenson President’s Award for scholarship and leadership … Won the Stevenson MIT Leadership in Science Award in 2011 … Also won the Monterey County History Day senior paper division and had the paper published in California Historian in 2010 … Founder of Monterey YMCA junior girl’s lacrosse program … Elected community service leader of the Stevenson student council in 2012 … Member of the Stevenson green key society from 2010-12 … Editorial board member of Stevenson’s Vailima in 2011 … Co-leader for Stevenson sophomore wilderness backpacking expedition … A community forum leader … Member of the National Charity League from 2006-12, which helped local charities such as Project Linus and Dorothy’s Kitchen … Mother, Nancy Zwend ’76, and father, Bruce Bruckmann ’76, both played varsity lacrosse for Harvard … Brother, Matthew Bruckmann, is in the class of 2015 at Harvard … Also enjoys hiking and backpacking.

Amelia Capone, Defense/ 5’7/Watertown, N.Y./ Watertown High
