IMG Academy lacrosse team takes shape with new commits

BRADENTON, Fla. (August 2, 2012) – Following an initial announcement of admitting a dozen student-athletes throughout North America to its lacrosse program, IMG Academy has added a second wave of student-athletes for a total of 22 members on its inaugural team.

New team members include:

John David DiSciorio (Tampa, Fla., Sophomore, Midfielder) brings seven years of playing experience to the lacrosse program. A deceptively fast and powerful athlete, DiScorio has been playing elite lacrosse for the Fire Lacrosse Club in Tampa for the last five years and starts at midfield for the club’s U-17 team. As a freshman, DiSciorio was a top midfielder for his team, which won the Club Championship in 2011.

Zack Grimwood (Lakewood Ranch, Fla., Junior, Midfielder) is an athlete with tremendous field IQ who has been competing at the U-19 elite level for the last two years. Grimwood was the second leading scorer on his team as a sophomore, earning 2nd team All-District for his performance.

Connor Griffin (Severna Park, Md., Freshman, Attack) is a multi-talented athlete who earned a spot in the IMG Academies tennis program prior to joining the lacrosse program. Griffin’s tennis background will prove instrumental in his development at both the defense and attack positions.

Riley Cocks (Tallahassee, Fla., Senior, Midfielder) was a starting midfielder on his varsity team before relocating to Bradenton to further develop his skills in preparation for college. Cocks received the Coach’s Award as a junior and was named 2nd Team All-District as a Midfielder.

Drew Vigne (Bradenton, Fla., Freshman, Midfielder) served as team captain and started as a midfielder for his varsity lacrosse team. Vigne also competes at the elite level for the Fire Lacrosse Club as a top midfielder on the U-17 team.

Jonathan “JT” Thelen (Tampa, Fla., Junior, Attack) is a highly regarded attackman who led his varsity lacrosse team in goals and total points his freshman and sophomore years, receiving Honorable Mention All-League status. Thelen has competed at the elite level for five years – the last two at U-19 – and was selected to Team Florida U-17 in 2011.

Zack Levy (Tampa, Fla., Senior, Midfielder) brings six years of playing experience to the lacrosse program. A face-off specialist for his varsity team, he was co-captain his sophomore and junior years, was named Most Dedicated Player by the coaching staff, and received the Players’ Player Award from his teammates.

Jude Sedillo (Bradenton, Fla., Freshman, Midfielder) was the leading scorer on his varsity lacrosse team, receiving the Most Valuable Player Award in 2012. Sedillo also competes at the elite level, playing U-15.

Ian MacLeod (Bradenton, Fla., Sophomore, Midfielder) was selected to play for Team Florida U-15, and was a starting midfielder on his varsity lacrosse team in 2012.

The newest team members will join a lacrosse program that distinguishes itself among other high schools by offering both box and field training, while integrating player skills development with intensive performance training. IMG Academy utilizes a college-style A/B schedule to create an ideal environment for maximizing performance both in the classroom and on the field.

The inaugural IMG Academy lacrosse team will compete in a variety of national and international tournaments in 2012-2013. A full schedule will be released in the coming month.
